I've seen a lot of uncommon LOCK/IN praise around here, feels like the community is slowly realizing the truth:
Double elimination is a bad format. It almost completely removes stakes from upper bracket games, makes dark horse/fluke runs close to impossible and unfairly punishes the best performing team of the tournament.
You will all eventually agree with me.
on the contrary, single elimination is and has always been the universally agreed best format for competitions, Valorant is the outlier. Just look at the World Cup, The Olympics and the UEFA Champions League, the most watched competitions ever, all are single elim.
Not practical,takes much more time and also physical sport expenses are like 10 times more than esports
the point is that people love it that way. Tell me a single reason why single elim wouldnt work on Valorant...
"Because it allows fluke runs" and why is that a bad thing? People love underdog stories and there is no such thing as winning because you got lucky, every win has its merits.

dark horses will always go on a run even if they won't win like eg in tokyo
i will blow your mind right now: The entire tournament, for everyone, is a "lower bracket run". Also lower bracket runs pretty much never happen anyway
We've seen it happen with FPX, and at least one team fail at the final hurdle like TH in Masters Shanghai.
Dark horse != fluke. A dark horse is a team that you think could legitimately go on a run, while a fluke is a team you think is not good enough who wins anyways because everything breaks their way. Double elim doesn't remove dark horses, only prevents fluke wins
its impossible to win a game based on luck alone. Anyone that wins has merit on doing so, you cant win just because "everything went your way".
I agree and disagree. In sports that are a series every match then that's true, but in single game sports like Football luck definitely can determine the outcome
and why do you think Football is the most popular sport ever? Precisely because luck can be a huge factor and make anything happen, people LIKE that shit, they always have.

Both Counter-Strike and League Of Legends have single elimination playoffs, but here in VCT we need to watch "UPPER QUARTER FINALS" and "LOWER SEMI FINALS" 🥀
I honestly don't really care which format they use but I do think double elim deserves some praise since almost always the double elim will produce better grand finals than you might in a single-elim format. But I do think think if I had to pick between an 8 team masters and a 32 team lock/in event, I would almost always prefer LOCK//IN

Single elim rewards big game players and teams, clutch players, creates more hype and entertainment and less useless boring games that are very common in double elimination brackets

single elim might work but would only work if there's a prior stage like a group/swiss stage that allows good seeding and second chances in the group, kinda like cs or even how nba has regular season and then playoffs
Continentally (EMEA/AMER/CNTW/APAC) : Single elim is okay to decide who is the regional winner, since nobody care about it, but we should have a looser bracket that decide sho got the remaining places in international event
In valorant bo1 will never be the most well liked format nor does it actually show the deepest stratbooks
