He’s the same case as Tex. Reps his ethnicity and heritage but is an American.
Hot take: I kinda don't like this repping ethnicity phenomenon tbh.
I legit have no clue whether jawgemo is Canadian or American because of this lol.
the problem is vlr not the player, on liquipedia, they show both nationalities on the players page, for some reason, vlr chooses a nationality and thats it
Jawgemo for example has the cambodian flag on vlr but he also has the american flag on liquipedia
the thing is idk how much the players actually chooses to rep a country or vlr just chooses for them
i doubt vlr is asking every player what flag they want next to their name
My understanding is if they don't know they'll put an international flag next to you, and then you can ask for it to be something different.
interesting
they might want to consider making space in the player pages for more than one flag, especially when the import rule is as important as it is in valorant
Liquipedia aren't that different tbh, they do list both countries or 3 if you are yotaa, but sometimes in liquidpedia you have cases like yoshii or the whole jft not being listed in game as japanese or australian
https://liquipedia.net/valorant/VCL/2024/Japan/Split_2
(Scarz yoshii)
https://liquipedia.net/valorant/VCL/2024/Ascension/Pacific
( jft)
yeah i see what you mean about the flag used next to their name, but at least once you click on the players name, you actually have all their nationalities
True, it's just at if we are looking at face value, jft and scarz should've been disqualified lol
This is the Global Contract Database. All players with a resident status as “non-resident” are considered imports to the region.
JohnQT is the only Import in Americas but he’s also a special case since he’s been in the NA scene for 3.5 years and was developed here. He disallows Sen from importing players from other regions though.
'Resident' simply means having a permanent address in the US. it doesn’t imply being an import
Dude, league affiliation is tied to your permanent residency. You can change your affiliation prior to the start of the season if you change residency, otherwise you’re considered an import. If you have dual citizenship, you can choose which region to be affiliated with but it’s obviously optimal to affiliate with the one you’re going to be living in so that your team doesn’t have to deal with import limitations.
That’s what happened with Talon Ban when he moved from Knights in NA to T1 in Pacific for the beginning of franchising.
if he grew up in cambodia and then moved back to US its ok if he wants to represents them but if he lived in US his whole life then hes as yankee as other americans
well nismo is also canadian
johnqt is just Moroccan im pretty sure he doesnt have another nationality, so he counts as an import
im pretty sure if you look at the contract database, it says he is a "non-resident' which makes him an import
yeah but he doesnt count as an import. you can choose which region you want to represent/stay in and johnqt chose Americas. it's like how wippie also isnt considered an import.
johnqt was born and raised in morocco and only went to NA to play pro valorant
Ethnicity wise yes, but they don't count as imports because they are American ( tex and jawg) and Canadian ( nismo) by nationality.
Johnqt is Moroccan tho so he's the only one that counts.
