Riot vs Valve

Riot hasnt had a single original idea ever, but at least they know how to keep a game running and how to market it.

When Valves does something it usually changes the industry, may it be Steam, VR, Steam Deck, a new standard for VR Games (Alyx) or now sub tick servers. The issue with Valve is tho that in order to achieve that they are pretty fucking strange in how they handle their projects. They literally talk about ticks and smoke grenades instead of making a "bad ass" trailer like everybody else would do.

knowing how to execute an idea is more impressive than coming up with one imo

pretty lame if u can't do both lol. Valve excels at both (and i mean EXCELS), they just tend to neglect their franchises their franchises after a while.

so their execution is lacking lmao

Well they are by far one of the most famous game development companies and by far the most technologically gifted developers in the gaming industry. People tend to forget the power of steam, the popularity of half life, l4d, portal and so on.

The quality of their games is unmatched. In fact so unmatched that they literally left most of their franchises on autopilot and they're still alive.

nothing is new under the sun, there are things which even CS has taken an inspiration out of from old era games - its just that those games died no one really knows about them. Marketing and innovating over an established game takes innovation and hard work of its own.

Also alot of those "technologically gifted" developers have worked for both companies

actually riot games lives because valve, they copied their famous games (lol and valarante)

Valve doesnt understand what makes CS so good so they do not mess with to much with it.

Valorant's not a copy of csgo in my opinion. They both are the same genre and share core mechanics of the genre, but Valorant innovates in terms of having a ton of gameplay that is created by the interactions between agents, and the different maps' special characteristics. It's not like Valorant literally just waits for a csgo update and then just copies it.

bruh valorant is a copy of cs what, when you say "core mechanics of the genre" you mean the core mechanics of cs right?

#7

They have the same gunplay. Apart from that csgo has barely anything in comparison to Valorant when it comes to util. What else do you expect in a tac fps? There's two extremes, overwatch or csgo. They went for the middle, calling it a direct copy is disingenuous

#8
asdfgh

exactly the same guns straight up copied with a couple unique ones, same economy system, very similar mechanics but just simpler etc,its the exact same idea with just a different setting,it even has the same developers

#9

How is Valorant simpler in terms of gameplay hahahhaa. The mechanical skill might be easier but it was never simpler in terms of util, now more than ever. Thats what Im trying to say btw , how much innovation can you do in tac fps lol. Just because someone made something first doesnt mean everything that comes after is a copy. When you're making games in a saturate genre, there are bound to be similarities. Either you go for gunplay like cs or like overwatch, there are no other options and riot chose cs

bro are you dumb i literally said "mechanics"very clearly wtf are you saying about gameplay lol, every game takes inspiration but valorant is literally the exact same game but with a different setting like i said,it is very clear they wanted to make the game exactly like cs but for a more casual audience, thats like saying lol didnt copy dota because they made cool cartoon graphics and different map and characters

#13

you edited your post but alr.

and im not calling a game with barely any util variety similar to valorant but you do you. I never said its not like cs lol, it definitely is and they 100 percent took a lot of inspiration. im just saying calling anything that comes later on a direct copy especially when a core part of your gameplay (the util) is sooo different is just dumb. take crossfire and cs, that you can call a copy

#16
asdfgh

i never said its a direct copy but they obviously copied the very unique core of cs,its not like they just made a 5v5 tac fps that takes some inspiration from cs

out of all the games that borrow cs' core weapon mechanics valorant is by far the most unique lmao

yeah because no big developer has even tried it before so all we had was some shit chinese bootleg versions like crossfire and some mobile versions etc

Its a csgo with agents with powers adapted from Overwatch. Riot did change some things like the maps per example, but they copied some aspects and just got everything together
I'm not saying it is bad, i'm saying that your statement is kinda wrong

Honestly tho a lot of people have innovative ideas, effective execution is harder. I respect Riot for how they've managed to capture huge fanbases in all their games despite coming out with their games in that particular genre later on.

Meanwhile I saw CS2 update and kept wondering why they didn't release a single fucking trailer to increase the hype

wdym they released like 3 lol

they released a MOBA, an auto-chess game, a tactical fps, and a card game. all different genres, all succeed in their respective genres (maybe besides legends of runeterra, sorry potter fan)

Well, the Steam Deck, Steam, Index and Half Life Alyx have been implemented perfectly fine and everybody says the same about the new sub tick system.

CS2? bullshit
they just put more collor in the game and called it cs2
I'd say it is CS 1.6.1

it's all come down to consumer, consumer doesn't care if it original or a copy if they find it fun then they're gonna enjoy it. you can scream all you want but numbers speak for itself.

take an example of another game like Fall guys, there's knock off in mobile version and it has more players active than original one.

Valve is an Innovator, Riot is entrepreneur both are making a significant change benefitting consumer but it's Riot turn now to adapt with Valve move.

if you talking about who's worse then both are worse. Valve with their dependencies with 3rd parties and Rito with how stubborn & ignoring community outcry (replay when?)

i mean why would they change it, there are a lot of players still playing it. i think avoiding unnecessary change is the better thing to do for them, keep the game as similar as possible

So which other game has smokes like this and a sub tick server system then? Name me 1, I will wait until somebody coppies it.

someone tell that guy how viper ult works

#41
iframedeez
2
Frags

it isn't limited to Viper ult actually. Viper wall and Harbor wall interact with its surrounding environment.

ex: default smoke in Fracture B site as attacker, it'll follow elevated ground if you aimed higher and vice versa here's with picture: https://i.imgur.com/rwbMYGP.png

so yeah Valve kinda copied Valorant smokes mechanic but they're adding their own twist (dissipipate upon impact and recovered)

Nothing really innovative about CS2 tbf. It’s more of a rebrand than anything else. Biggest change is the game being updated to Source 2.

Valve clears Riot without question in every way, shape or form lol let's not get ahead of ourselves. Valve's only problem is developer neglect.

Well, CS has been working pretty well with that. CS has always been a game mostly shaped by the community so I think it is fair that they do not touch that. Just a bit more communication would be great imo.

The more competition the better for the consumer. Agreed.
