Do we have our own cuisine? Obviously.
Is it good? Compared to italian, indian.. no.

But we do have:

tapioca (indigenous origin)
cuscuz (arab origin)
acarajé (african origin)
feijoada (portuguese origin)
bacalhau (portuguese origin)
strogonoff (russian origin)

also our cuisine has a lot of chinese influence we eat a lot of rice and beans like in china

Turkish cuisine clears Italian

Pide is a better version of pizza
manti is a better version of ravioli
kunafa clears tiramisu and panna cotta
iskander doner singlehandedly clears every other dish italy has

List of turkish dishes:
iskander doner
Istanbul kofte
kebab (multiple types across regions of turkiye)
manti
pide
lahmacun
sucuk
ayran
baklava
kunafa
mercimek corbasi

I'd say Chinese. Indian food is also up there, along with Mediterranean food.

Filipino food is also good, but not as good as the ones listed above imo. As much as I also enjoy Japanese cuisine I think it's a tad bit overrated, while Korean is on a whole other level of overrated.

anything and everything, we commonly refer to our culture as a “melting pot” of all the world’s different cultures. you can find many unique fusion cuisines you cannot find anywhere else in the world here. but outside of embracing other cultures as our own, uniquely american dishes include southern style bbq (smoked brisket, pork ribs, bbq beans, etc.), soul food (fried chicken, baked mac and cheese, corn bread, etc), cajun cooking (gumbo, jambalaya, seafood boil etc.) that’s only 3 different types i can go on and on

#113

bro if its something u rarely eat its not ur cuisine lmao

a cuisine of a culture is something its native eats barely everyday

Here in Brazil we eat churrasco, feijoada, tapioca... almost every day.

#115

how is this something we rarely eat? these are eaten legit everyday. people run restaurants off this stuff. not everyone has the same culture here, i just listed off a few things from the south, didn’t even mention northeast, west coast, or the midwest

#117
delusional-brazilian
-1

Exactly, which means it's not cuisine from the USA, but from small ethnic groups and regions within the USA.

The cuisine I mentioned from brazil is food found throughout the whole country.

Let's not turn this into an agressive discussion. I kinda agree with him tho. I don't really know how people do in US, maybe you guys eat in restaurants often? In Brazil, cuisine is mostly home made

#138
AegisJT
0
Frags
+

The entire point is the U.S. is a globalized nation. It does not have a distinct national cuisine because it’s a massive national polity. It has many sub cultures and those are the American cuisine. China and India has many different distinct cuisines and one would be stupid to say China and India don’t have cuisine. Folks just got a hate boner for America for other reasons and so translate that into the “America has no good food argument.” All food cultures are derivative and to act otherwise is kind of stupid. Italian-American cuisine (particularly in New York) is its own cuisine. Soul food is its own thing. These are things people eat commonly if they grew up in that cultures. The US has no single unified food culture and to a degree more than other countries due to the nature of American culture being the result of two centuries of distinct people groups joining the cultural fabric

#140
delusional-brazilian
-1
Frags
+

What a terrible argument.

Throughout the whole india they eat chili peppers, cilantro, vegetables, and samosas. Throughout the whole china they eat rice, soba, and soybeans. All cultures arise from syncretism, not just the US. Chinese culture arose from syncretism. So did India. Russia. Italy.

Italian-American and soul food are cultural expressions from ethnic groups independent of the USA, not food specific to the USA.

Here in Brazil we also have this; Arab-Brazilians, for example, eat "esfihas"... but we dont consider esfiha part of the main brazilian cuisine, like cuscuz which also has arab origin but is eaten by all brazilians regardless of their ethnic group of regional culture

The US is a multicultural country, unlike Brazil, which despite being multiethnic, is monocultural and monolingual; the same culture and cuisine predominate throughout the country with minor variations.

#141
AegisJT
0
Frags
+

Okay if your definition of cuisine is just a unified national cuisine, yea no shit there is no singular unifying "American cuisine." But this is like saying there is a single unified Indian cuisine. If you want to make the multilingual multicultural argument, India doesn't have a singular cuisine, only its cultural exports do. Foreigner concepts of Indian food is the amalgamation of different dishes that were exported from significantly different cuisine groups. If you wanna argue that American cuisine doesn't exist because its not part of a fully unified culture and lifestyle than you could make such arguments for India

#142
delusional-brazilian
0
Frags
+

first, yes india does have a unified cuisine... roti, khichdi, pakora, samosa, paratha, dahi... are eaten all over the country

second, yes india is a multicultural country like the US, yet their multiculturalism is more robust than the american because it stems from ethnic groups and cultures that have existed for centuries: Tamil, Bengali, Rajasthani, and so on...

It depends on the region of Portugal; we have a lot of variety (even though we are a small country).

I think it's best if you do some research if you're interested, but I'll leave you with a few options:

  • good wines and cheeses
  • Francesinha
  • Polvo à lagareiro
  • Carne de porco à alentejana
  • Leitão
  • alheira
  • many cod fish dishes (in portuguese 'Bacalhau')
  • and a lot more :)

The people who put the US low just base it off of the fast food rather than the actual food most of us eat regularly. Like most people think that everyone here just goes to McDonald's or a restaurant every meal and we eat nothing but processed foods but thats pretty far from actually being the case, most families cook every night just like everywhere in the world. The problem is the USA is so big so you don't have a uniform "food culture" like most other places, basically every state has its ownstyle of food. And you might bring up China being big but having a uniform cuisine, but China really doesn't have that uniform of a food culture, it has places like Xi'an, Lhasa, or Guizhou who's food differ quite a lot from what's most people would think as normal chinese cuisine.
