tiananmen square might be the biggest straw man i've ever witnessed. The US really succeeded with their propaganda to make a very impactful and devastating day for Chinese people (from 37 years ago) into a bigger issue than anything other countries have done over the last half a century. Most countries have done equally awful things in their past and in far greater quantities, and you are allowing ONE tragic day to impact your opinion on a country that has greatly improved and developed as a society.
In 1980 china's extreme poverty rate was at about 90%, it fell bellow 50% before 2000, and it's now bellow 1%.
Right now China is arguably the most prosperous country in the world. 87% of their urban citizens own their homes, with that number climbing to 95%+ for rural areas. Rent and utility bills are less than half what they are in the US. Food is significantly cheaper.
Non of this is propaganda. It's just facts. Living in china as of right now is pretty good, and very few countries can confidently say that about themselves right now.
