is a stinky show.

Firstly, here's an undeniable fact: Rudeus, an adult, is a piece of shit who sexualizes children.
Then there's the defense that the series is about how he goes from shitty to a respectable person.
How can a pedo ever become a respectable person, even if he "regrets it" (is that supposed to make me feel sympathy for him)? there's literally no redemption for that type of shit.
Not to mention, he's not punished for being a shitty person. in fact, he's only rewarded with everything he could ask for throughout the series.

Second, another the author explicitly says that "About Rudeus: He doesn't really have any feelings of hatred for slavery. He feels like, it's not necessarily the case that all slaves are universally unhappier as slaves than they were before becoming slaves. So while kidnapping is evil, he can't say with certainty that slavery itself is evil."
Are y'all seriously okay with this shield hero level type of shit? For the record, he maintains this mindset throughout the series as far as I know (do correct me, but doesn't really make it much better).

I'm only scratching the surface of criticisms toward this show, mostly because i'll admit that i haven't watched even the first season in its entirety. I'm not trying to say that people who watch this are supportive of the weird shit that happens or are pedos themselves at all. But even if, or though the story has good writing and interesting worldbuilding, are you guys unironically able to watch this and call it "peak" without feeling uncomfortable?

I agree with all your points but honestly with media like this I think of it like reading your average piece of famous 19th century literature, which often has a lot of irredeemable characters who are painted as heroes by their respective authors.

I think it's entirely possible to determine that many parts of the story are problematic, which yes make me highly uncomfortable, while still being able to enjoy and appreciate the rest of it for what it is.

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with liking it or even considering it peak, because the narrative value it provides separate from all its problematic elements is a subjective force that might simply hit all the right spots for a lot of people in a way that no other media has been able to do thus far.

A good example is Berserk, which is something I both claim is a masterpiece and also something that I need to point out has an overly sexualized depiction of rape for what it's supposed to bring to the story narratively speaking. Miura could've gone about integrating that plot element in a lot of ways that didn't involve the victim referencing half the kamasutra. Frankly, that part of Berserk will always be disgusting to me. However, that doesn't take away from the value the rest of the manga still has in my opinion, which to me is still one of the most beautifully crafted narratives I've ever read.

That being said, I still think Mushoku Tensei is overhyped; Blue Lock clears

unfortunately most anime fans are desensitized to stuff like pedophilia and slavery. I hate the narrative of "rudeus is trying to change" when he clearly is still a dogshit human. also I think some things should not be forgiven like ever and that is one of them

My personal end with Mushoku came when I read that

Rudeus' little sister marries the bald spear guy

yes ruijerd, that shit made me throw up internally, especially when you realize how f'd up her situation was growing, and she realistically never got better since she got married to a 4000 year old bald man whose not even a human

idk whats worse really

the fact that norn married ruijerd

or

aisha married eris + rudeus kid

the world, characters and power system are all amazing, had it not been for the weird age gap relationships it would have been amazing.

IMO personally the show wouldnt be as good if rudeus wasn't a complete degenerate before reincarnating, as his inner turmoil and improvements are the main interest and driving factor, but the pedo shit is just too much really

The whole point of the show to me was attempting to mend rudeus' character but in doing so they lead to

so many pedo like relationships that everyone in the show is fine with???? I like the whole fighting level plot, even with sylphy or whatever the elf's name was, I am fine with it, but how tf does other shit work? Its like author makes up for rudy's shitty character for jacking over his niece pre reincarnated world, and then chooses to make other likeable characters do the same shit, and now its fine?

the issue is, they do address most of the issues that he had in his previous life, the only thing they don't cover is his unhealthy relationship with sexualising kids which is arguably the worst thing by far

Like he recognises and delves deep into his relationship with himself, his body, the way he reacts to situations, his relationship with his parents etc which are all great, just the pedo shit and relationship with sex doesn't change, and is pretty much just what would happen if you put a degenerate pedo into a body of a gifted and attractive young person in a world with no laws. Had so much potential, and it did execute on its potential in a lot of situations, just way too much pedo shit

Exactly

Its like they made rudy realize he's a shit person and a pedo, but then made him into somewhat of a pedo again because now he doesn't do it out of ill intentions but pure love and because its a medieval fantasy world, its fine, like tf?

Yea that anime is fucking disgusting. Rudeus literally had sex with a 15 year old girl with the mind of a degenerate adult. What makes it worse is that the show is trying everything in its' power to make us feel empathy for the main character. It's clearly going for redemption on Rudeus, but to me, that is not a redeemable act. I think before that moment, he was redeemable. It's such a shame too because the world building and side characters are pretty interesting.

Honestly, this is one of the animes I have dropped during my time as an anime watcher (not one anymore). I absolutely agree with all of your points, and while honestly I didn't think too much about the slavery bits (it appears a lot in other animes), what really made me drop the show was how excruciating it was to relate to Rudeus and support him. I know there are many unlikeable MCs in the history of anime shows, but I mean, come on. He's literally a nobody, has no job, has no friends, family, no nothing. He's an unproductive fatso who does fuck all every single day. How can you possibly get me to enjoy any scene with Rudeus in it, knowing his true nature? I've had no issues with other isekai shows featuring unproductive protagonists like Re:Zero, KonoSuba, because their protagonists actually have qualities that are either redeemable, or relatable (imo).

I just couldn't watch Mushoku Tensei. I think it is probably only second to my least favorite anime of all time, which is TenSura
