EG were going to propose a 50% pay cut (300k to 150k)

PLUS

a bigger % of cosmetics sold returned. what's not to like?

I absolutely despise people who cry wolf like this.

LOL! these greedy players can't live with 150k + royalties so they decide to cry like babies on twitter expecting the fans to be super outraged.

BOYCOTT EG PLAYERS NOW.

i think its the gesture of the cut itself that hurts the most but yeah 150k is definitely not the end of the world

I agree they should stay with 150k but what is there to boycott in a players choice of staying or leaving a team 😂

To be fair, a part of the reason why sports/esports salaries are so high is because no one really plays for their entire life. You normally sacrifice a lot, whether it be educational or professional connections, by dedicating the amount of time it takes to get to the top. People might only play Valorant for 5 years, but they usually forgo going to college or starting their careers. If you try to go to college after that, your savings from a lower salary are going to start going away pretty fast.

even if they play valorant for only 5 years, if they're successful which in this case the EG team is, they can continue to make an insane monthly amount from streaming alone not including sponsors which most (not all) of these players end up doing

#25

streaming same as playing
No average streamer is gonna be popular for more than 5 years .....
And in 5 years the game will prolly die

as opposed to people who go to college before earning $150k for several years????? because they obviously have massive savings to pay for their education with. smh.

what the hell i thought they were asking the players to take league minimum or something. i understand the gesture of cutting the salaries is bad but 150k is still insanely good. plus i'm sure stay, food and travel would also be covered by the org.

If I got a 5/5 performance review, and was told my salary was halved with the chance to earn a higher bonus, I'd be looking for a new job regardless of what my salary was pre-cut

you have to understand their situation though. in any other industry, I would agree. context matters:

they should know the landscape of the the industry, or switch if they feel that its too volatile and can't cope. its part and parcel of the conditions they choose to work in.

"The sources who contacted this publication stated that the organisation may still elect to ask for buyouts for each of the players, potentially as a tactic to ensure that they don’t find suitable teams ahead of the Valorant season"

Uhh, hello? Seems reasonable be pissed about that.

they have the best valorant team in the WORLD. japanese strawberries are the most expensive for a reason.

Nah blud, them giving them the choice “stay and take the pay cut or leave if you can find a team that can pay for your huge buyout” i dont think thats a good thing an org should do.

Even from a business perspective its incredibly unprofessional. Only thing that you can kinda say to excuse them is that the ceo has recently changed but its still not the players fault that they would be complaining about the situation.

disclaimer*

salary numbers are not mine. the 25k was a rough figure revealed by george yesterday, so the numbers are not exactly correct. will add as a disclaimer below the original tweet.

Dont trust george his original margins were insanely wrong and a lot of people have been saying his 25k number was wrong.

Half cut after winning champs is kinda disrespectful to the players no matter how you see it.

I do not trust this 25K number at all LOL

you guys are ripping into the players based on COMPLETLY SPECULATIVE salary numbers.

there is no way all five starting members of EG were each making 300K last season.

No it's not, wtf?
Even in NYC you can live very comfortably with 150k.
Who tf is having trouble living with 150k/year. Sounds like a budgeting issue.

Honestly there's a lot a smart person can do with 150k at their age but I understand how gamers dedicate a lot of their time to something not real, sacrificing a lot that is real in the process. Regardless, it's crazy that some gamers get paid more than professional doctors and still find a way to cry about paycheck cuts. I mean be realistic, you didn't expect that?

Inflationary tendencies shouldn't be a thing in any sport market.

To be as young as they are and to ever complain about 150k a year salary is absolutely absurd. Most professionals with a Bachelors or Masters don't even make that amount! How about you bag as much of that as you can because God only knows where you'll be in 5 years without any education (for most) and real world experiences other then travelling and living the lap of luxury playing a video game.

Evidently, organizations are trying to be as fiscally responsible as they can be without jeopardizing going bankrupt. We are in a silent recession, with the global and national debt being sky high currently. These uneducated players are simply that. Uneducated. Before anyone flames me that does not imply that they are not intelligent individuals. They just need to wake up and read the economic status of this country right now.

so they offered them over double league minimum which is more than what a few teams are spending even?

Not to mention with E-Sports in the state it’s in as a whole it makes sense to take pay cuts to stay with ur team, they also were paying Demon1 less I believe due to his contract which I’m sure was fixed during this. They get better incentives + were the best team itw last year and are bound to place well which is more money in their pocket. Smh this is jus greed cause they won do we see FNC players doing the same? And they wouldn’t even if they won smh

#47

These players need to learn how to negotiate contracts.

How can someone under CONTRACT all of the sudden get paid 50% less?

That’s what a contract is for….
