Bro I've got an important exam next year and I'm procrastinating like hell. The exam would define the majority of the course of my life and I'm fucking up right now

the JEE exam (India)
I've spent most of my life in france as my parents worked in the Indian embassy over there (the reason I'm french born). It's just recently that I shifted to India and acquired Indian citizenship and started to know about this exam and india is literally fucking me from all angles in education 💀

I’ve heard schooling in France is also pretty brutal so either way you’re fucked in the ass

Really? I heard the brevet is so easy and they don't enforce anything like you don't even need to really do the homework. But then the next level up is fairly difficult. I didnt know it was hard!

Meditate every morning before I get up + gym + self reflection time/journaling in the evenings. Just have to spend more time with yourself and no distractions, just you and your thoughts and you will find out a lot about yourself, your insecurities and issues.

where did you learn the self reflection/journaliing part?

#13

not really something you can learn as its all personal, just gotta throw yourself in and try it. I go to counselling 1 time a month and she recommended that I try it.

What I do is normally start by writing about my day, what went well, what went wrong and whats on my mind. I normally go off on tangents where I write about literally anything that comes to me. I write about 2 pages in an A5 sized journal, normally takes me 15-20 mins, but when I first started I would only write a couple things down so its up to you how much you want to do.

The self reflection normally happens during this time where I think about what sort of person I want to be, and how I treat myself / others, and be strict about it and honest about your own mistakes.

Life in West atleast spares u time to work on yourself
Asian life is just study work study work study work; very depressing.

Obviously everyone is different, but I think dedicating 30 mins a day to taking care of yourself is very doable and important.

When I was at uni I studied 12 hours a day + 8 hours sleep + 1 hour commute + 1 hour food and shit, but I'd still take the time in the evenings to journal.

Even if its only 5 mins a day, its a good habit to build and you will feel much better about yourself if you do it

If you wanna study for time, join the studywithme discord server, I think its called studytogether or something, met some nice friends who used to study online with you for hours...

During exam periods I get super strict with myself, delete youtube and things from my phone, remove every app that I don't need to use every day from my home screen etc etc. Its not about forcing yourself to do it, as its gonna be hard to stay focused if you don't want to do it.

Just try and manage your workspace in a way that makes it super easy to do work and hard to get distracted. Some thing I did (dont have to do all as I am very strict with myself as I used to be super lazy)

  • Cold Turkey Blocker - Blocks websites / apps on your computer so you can't access them at certain times
  • Delete apps like discord/social media from everything but my phone, and then put my phone in my bag/ a different room
  • Brain.fm - This one is pretty gimmicky but it works for me
  • Same routine every day - go to bed at the same time every night and get at least 8 hours sleep in. The longer you sleep the better but anything less than 8 and you aren't at peak performance
  • Leave important tabs open/ pages open for yourself the next day
  • Write out a plan each morning for everything you want to get done, helps you stay focused and manage your time better

12 hours a day isn't sustainable, Id only do it a month or so before exams, normally I'd study 6-8 hours a day during non exam periods.

Here i am after 4 hours of sleep lol
Great points, i think i should start getting more sleep in or im fucked by the time i reach uni 💀

yea if youre studying on 4 hours sleep you can study for 4 hours longer than if you slept 8 hours but your brain will not be working to remember things, pretty sure your brain does most of its consolodation during sleep as well. Defo work on getting 8 hours sleep every day and consistent sleep timings and youre golden.

one small but impactful thing I feel like i've improved on this year is not dwelling on the past or bad moments. i dont get embarrassed as much for the small things. if I do badly on a test, I dont beat myself up for it and just start a new day. i feel like it really helped with improving my mental health even if just a little bit. its definitely not something that you can visibly see results or anything, but i just feel calmer these days and in moments when in the past i would probably get really anxious, now I'm getting better and less nervous for things.

basically just channeling the go next mindset everyday does wonders

Being grateful for what I have and being mindful of others. Also exercising and eating healthy seems to help as well.
