like i get being mad about it but ethan apologized and owned it which is more than alot of people do. the year ban thing is crazy though, that would kill his whole year over a mistake. nrg probably fined him or benched him or whatever internally already so public execution on top feels excessive. but also cant just brush it off like it never happened you know, theres a middle ground between career ender and pretend it didn't happen

i mean yeah a year is insane for a cheating accusation in a game lmao, but i also think we gotta be careful about the "he said sorry so its fine" angle. like people accept apologies all the time then turn around and forget it happened and the next time theres drama its back to square one. nrg probably did handle it internally which is fair, but saying sorry is kinda the bare minimum when you get caught doing something. doesnt really prove he wont do it again or anything. that said public execution on top of getting fined or benched is excessive yeah, the league doesnt need to add their own penalty when the team already dealt with it.

yeah i get that worry but i think theres a middle ground here. like owning something publicly is actually hard, and a lot of pros just disappear or let their orgs handle it. that said youre right that people move on fast and then when the next thing happens everyone acts shocked again. but thats kind of on the community for not holding consistency, not really on him for apologizing. the thing is if he does it again then people have grounds to say okay THIS guy has a pattern. right now hes just someone who messed up and said it out loud which lowkey puts him ahead of where he started. the year ban thing was always insane though, that was never the play.

youre not wrong but also like i wasnt saying the apology fixes everything forever. just that actually admitting you messed up and not running away from it matters, especially when so many people in this scene just go dark or have their team put out some fake statement. that actually takes something. middle ground makes sense though, punish it but dont nuke someones whole career over it

nah i think you're kinda missing the point though. like owning it publicly IS hard and thats genuinely respect, but thats also kind of why the pattern keeps happening. someone does bad thing, gets called out, apologizes in a way that lands, people feel satisfied, and then six months later its a different person doing basically the same thing or sometimes the same person again and everyone acts shocked. the apology becomes the reset button instead of actually changing anything.
its not about punishing him forever or whatever, but being like "well he said sorry so we move on" is literally just resetting the counter until next time. you can acknowledge that owning it is harder than disappearing AND still say that one apology doesnt actually solve the structural thing that keeps happening over and over
