the reason viewership is decreasing

riot changes the meta too frequently. a lot of people still consider 2022 and 2023 the best years and I think a big part of that is that they had a fairly consistent meta so it was mostly the same teams that were strong throughout the year. people will say that it's boring but the truth is that most people would rather watch players they know on teams they know that have storylines from previous events participate in events rather than a master with a ton of irrelevant teams like santiago.

i agree on the point that its better as a viewer to have consistently strong teams

we need more agents and most of them being viable, which will not just diversify the meta and provide for a refreshing viewing experience but also would benefit all the playstyles

also, the util nerfs this year was super unnecessary and bad, if i wanted no agent util i would rather play cs or pubg not val; champs last year was great and riot should've built something on top of it

we don’t need more agents to be honest i don’t think there’s that many ideas left that work well in valorant, they just need to buff agents like gekko or deadlock that can be played on quite a few maps but get outclassed by other agents

fair, but i was watching league just a few days prior and the fearless draft system is super cool, but to implement agent bans and shit we need more agents; while we can't have superheroes and shit even agent bans could make the games interesting and promote teams being more flexible

I personally think agent bans wouldn't be great for viewership because then teams wouldn't really be able to anti-strat or make great game plans and it would cause VCT to look more like ranked. But I do think fearless draft would be a good idea.

i see what you mean, but i think this would increase the importance of smart plays and players, igls and coaches; developing strats on the fly, this would also lead to different agent combinations every game and the biggest complaint which we have rn of games being stale (neon shotgun, or only waylay/yoru, neon at santiago) will not exist

riot wants unpredictability so bad its hurting teams and their preps(not to mention they gave up on casuals), also why tf they listen to pros like t0nz they dont even represent most of the val playerbase

I hated 2022, I stand by chamber meta sucking. Peak for me was 2023. Raze and jett main duelists but phoenix, reyna, yoru still viable. Teams were all doing something different

That and the absurdly long time between tournaments and if your favorite team sucks, they get to play like 10 games a year. Glad they changed format for next year, but now we get to see more shit teams play while waiting for franchised teams to play.

unpopular opinion but I kind of agree with riot's reasoning for this. if your team plays thirty times a year you stop caring about it as much. of course I think the current format is too little and should be increased, not sure how many games the new format will have so we'll see if it's enough or too many.

but the bigger issue with the new format imo is that there's gonna be a bigger number of teams and people will care less about the majority of them and I don't think a lot of these subregions are good enough to field multiple competent rosters

2023 didn’t really have a consistent meta unless I’m misremembering

Also apart from nostalgia, a big reason I think 2022 and 23 were so fun to watch is cus of how big the skill gap was back then, the same players who were good in 2021 got into top teams in 2022 and franchising in 2023 because they were genuinely better then everyone else this made it so that a lot of interesting storyline’s formed and players generally had a lot more hype around them, also it made underdog runs like TGRD or eg super impressive as it really felt like they were defying odds by beating these super experienced players who have been at the top for years

Nowadays teams are made up of rookies which kinda limits storyline’s and leads to fans not rlly have a personal connection with the players and underdog runs don’t feel as impressive as there isn’t really a visible skill gap that the underdogs are overcoming, a lot of matches are just new unknown players beating new unknown players

Actual reason - regions with the highest viewership became shit (specifically Brazil) and the biggest names retired. And the game was not as popular as it was in 2023

or maybe bring more tournaments so popular teams have higher chance to be in internationals
