When I was younger and working for aAa, I did like to represent the result of a tournament byu a graph that feature every result, for exemple for China thats work like that :
https://imgur.com/CZqZ9z5.png

  • The White line show who beat who (If you are higher in the graph thats mean you beat team under except if they are a yellow arrow)
  • Yellow arrow are upset that break the transitivity
  • White circle is a situation where A > B > C > A and have same number of point

I wanted to know if you find this graph easy to understand. To me I find it easier to read than tables since it's more visual and on a blink on a aye you can see who beat who.
So I take feeback

I can see the advantage for tiebreakers, but I find it really hard to read the exact standings from it (though your image is one of the most extreme examples possible)

I find matrix' the easiest to work with personally, but it'd be interested to see if the graphic representation could help with larger groups (since you have the spatial order of "better" teams being higher up) or if the arrows just get out of hand too quickly

Coder brain myself so ill never be able to give up the matrix though since it makes thinking in terms of the algorithms so much easier

I also have a huge math brain, but I never know if green is good for the team on the left or on the top, so I fastly get lost XD.

But yeah this one is extreme, more they are team more the graph is complex, at 10 team, it can sometime be amess, but for 6/8 it's kinda perfect, only 3 arrow is okayish !

Send me a more complex group and I send it back to you in the graph form !

we sadly dont have any proper swiss stages in valorant, but I was thinking for something like https://www.vlr.gg/event/2281/valorant-masters-bangkok-2025/swiss-stage it could work really nicely
Cause swiss look horrible in table form (rematches and empty cells) + teams with the same amount of wins playing each other should reduce the amount of crazy arrows

If I find time in the next couple weeks ill look into writing up a rudimentary parser to experiment with how it looks on bigger swiss stages myself

Thats a graph for round robin, not really for swiss since some team dont play each other sadfully.

It's not impossible, but I never did it for swiss

yea youre right (I was hoping that by having multiple "win" lines for the undefeated teams it'd lead to a clean layout, but quickly sketching the 16 team LoL 25 champs has created a monster...)

Sadly dont remember many important ties in group stages to test on x.x
https://www.vlr.gg/event/984/champions-tour-stage-2-emea-challengers/group-stage looks great with your layout though (both groups, but especially B where its super clear why m3 made it)

Ill see if I can think of some other/better examples after work, but the above example has convinced that it has a niche
Looks really clean
