they can just be mid to the point where they don't look bad, but they're not the best player on the team, like Veqaj, Nerve, or Xeppaa, they are mid, but not bad (and I don't think it's intentional either). orgs don't usually cut mid players, especially the ones that don't have enough money to sign better players
so if you're not good but also not ruining the team, they won't cut you/will take a long time to do it. "not trying to win" can also be running into the enemy team every round, getting kills, but not really helping your team, if a player gets 30 kills and his team loses, and you look at him just trying to farm kills every round (like JohnKD), this is also not trying to win, but an org wouldn't cut a player who keeps dropping 30 kills
if all teams had a lot of money, I'm sure they would cut any player who isn't actively making a difference. but some players know they're guaranteed to stay for a certain amount of time, so they can afford to not really be the best until the contract is getting to an end
also, a player who gives up once because his mental is weak is probably never going to get cut. they'll send that player to the team's psychologist and they'll try to fix that issue, then if it keeps showing up, he'll get fired. my point is most teams are more lenient than they should be, contracts + not enough money makes it not so easy
idk if you watch the NBA, but Zach Lavine is a player who wasn't trying hard enough on defense and still getting paid millions to play, if the coach and GM think it's all good, they won't cut the player, and he'll keep getting away with it. just like a normal job, you can pretend to work and never actually work, you'll get paid, people might not even notice it and you'll just keep doing it for a lot of reasons; you might feel unappreciated, or you might not like what you're being told to do, you might not like your coworkers.... anyway, this is my full argument, I've explained everything exactly how I see it
