New format for Champs

32 team tournament

Top 4 teams from Stage 2 playoffs + 2 teams from Champs points + 2 teams from a tier 2 qualifier per region

The 8 teams that qualified from points and the 8 tier 2 teams play each other in a swiss stage, with 3 wins needed to qualify to the next stage

Then the 8 teams that qualified from that stage and 16 teams that qualified through regional playoffs are split into 4 groups of 6 teams

The 6 teams then play each other in a round robin format with the top 2 teams all making it to playoffs

We then have the regular 8 team double elimination playoffs

It would make Champs a lot longer, a lot more exciting and overall make it feel like a much more special event that is genuinely a gruelling gauntlet

It would probably require much longer days and more than 2 matches a day, or multiple streams running at a time

CS Majors are 32 team events and they work incredibly well as events

True but I think starting to move more towards the more open formats with direct tier 2 invites would be a lot better for the scene

There are 48 teams in tier 1. The only reason cs works with 32 teams is cause its insanely open. There would be almost no purpose to having "league formats" with a 32 team champs, it would have to change to a quasi open tournament circuit (which I would prefer personally, tournament circuits >>>>>> leagues)

i like it, ive long been a proponent for 16 team masters + 32 team champs with integration of the tier 2 circuit. only way this scene survives in the grassroots

Round robin is good if you want a big "number of game / elimination ratio", but international event tend to drop that kind of inefficient format (only solution is if they are no chance), why not make the 32 teams directly in stage 1 ?

6/12 VCT teams make to champs from every region.
Mid table team make champs
Players won’t bother trying all year/season long knowing finishing mid table qualify to champs.
People will then complain why game quality sucks all year long.
Saving strats for champs excuse skyrocket.
Tier 2 teams making champs lead to decrease of high quality gameplay from biggest event of the year.
Disaster waiting to happen.
