EDG the issues after S1mon drop

I’m really not liking the direction EDG is going. The mid-round calling has clearly dropped, and the team looks disconnected after S1mon left.

During Bangkok, when Chichoo stepped up as IGL and S1mon or nobody were involved in mid-round calling, they looked much more structured and finished top 3. Right now, I think the issues are clearly internal within EDG’s core — Chichoo, Kangkang, Smoggy, and nobody.

If they want to compete at the highest level again, they either need S1mon back or an import to fix whatever they have going on.

I really want this team to succeed, but without fixing the leadership and internal coordination it’s going to be hard for them to reach their full potential.

A full rebuild is risky. EDG’s core has proven they can place internationally. The problem doesn’t look like talent it looks like role clarity and leadership. Fix the system before you scrap the roster.

Security in the league doesn’t remove competitive risk. You can be partnered and still fall behind internationally. A rebuild only works if you’re 100% sure the core ceiling is capped and I’m not convinced EDG has hit that yet.

Everyone and their mother was rooting for EG to lose 2023 against PRX.
The entire crowd in LOCK IN rooted against FNC, in fact some even left after they won.
What did they do?

It sucks but you can’t ask for haters not to hate.
All you can feel is pity because there is nothing else they can seek value in this world from.

I think the problem with EDG is quite clear, and I don’t think it’s a mental thing.

Thats just a lack of empathy lmao, you dont know how bad the hate is in China. Smoggy for example shared how scared and worried he was during the time when fans were doxxing him and finding him irl. There was a period (about half a year) that whenever KK streamed, 90% of the chat was extreme hate (+death threats etc)

I have been given death threats.
Albeit I’m not nearly as famous as them so the magnitude is probably different by a lot.

I don’t care because the only people who do that are losers. They don’t have the balls to approach you IRL.

I do hope that they stay safe however, and am glad they did remain safe.

I mean they did approach Smoggy IRL. All I'm saying is if you were on chinese social media more or have seen any documentaries abt it you'd get it. EDG has always been the most popular in China and they feel the most 'representative' hence basically all the hate goes directly to them rather than Trace, FPX, BLG, XLG, etc

That was also why the stuff with S1mon was such a huge issue because in his streams he would constantly hint towards things going on in EDG in a bad way and letting his fans hate, rather than either staying silent (which is the rule of the contracts players have to sign) or make a more formal statement. KK for example in his streams would remain professional and shut down a lot of people who were saying this or that about AfteR etc.

Yeah that's my bad.
I didn't know they were consistently approaching them IRL, that's a different situation.
But I will still always stand on my belief that words/hate online should not be taken to heart as a competitor/creator.
I hope they are able to overcome this problem, and I do wish for EDG to do much better in the future.

in esport cultures like korea or china, losing is such immense pressure. people make whole billboards, and advertisements about you, people start stalking you and hate on you irl, there are hundreds of videos hating you, people stand outside your HQ to yell and hold up signs to hate on you. Your chat is filled with millions who hate on you, nearly every thread about you on social media is about you and how shit you are.

Chichoo didnt IGL in bangkok, he ONLY igl'd in stage 2 (because nobody was playing yoru)
S1Mon wasnt helping make calls, he only made calls for his utility, the overall macro calls has ALWAYS been nobody

BUT YES, EDG have still yet to find a good 5th for them

CB, HFMI, Jieni are all decent players but dont fit into EDG's ecosystem

Hfmi did horribly in stage 2 china, as soon as EDG dropped him, EDG started winning.

again not a player problem, hfmi was doing fine off of EDG, just doesnt fit in the ecosystem
