Throughout val history, weakest mechanically and tactically sub region. Genuinely there are more talent in asia that can offer up competition rather than two whole pure japanese teams. Anytime I watch a japan team play they just seem a step below tactically and aim wise. Riot needs to make it atleast one slot atleast other orgs are willing to have different talent across asia rather than a full nation roster

The fanbase, val is huge in japan even their tier 2 is huge. Why do you think India got a slot when they got no good players, for the fanbase.

Because riot is playing the long game, they are thinking good players will come along in the future, I mean look at DFM. How are the players gonna come along if they don't have a goal to achieve which is tier 1

viewership at the end of the day it's business if you can get viewership you will always have the slots nothing to do with performance

also in stage 2 play-in JP gets 1 slot which is equal to Korea who also get only 1 slot and whole SEA is getting 2 slots fixed and OCE, India and 3-4th seed from SEA will have to battle out for just a single slot and only criteria behind that distribution is also viewership .

Back when VS/DRX monopolise the 1 measly KR international slot pre partnership times, every korean players can only make internationals by going to JP/NA (exception is when KR got 2 slot). East Russian players can only compete in JP as well. Japan being a rare 1st world country in asia means they can afford western international level salary which makes JP one of the biggest T2 scene in valorant. Also viewership, that's why JP get 2 slots.

Japan i think generates as much viewership as whole emea alone

one thing that I’ve heard about the japanese val scene is that valorant is treated a lot more like a spectator sport and the actual playerbase isnt super competitive compared to other much larger fps markets like NA, Korea, and Europe. IDK how true that actually is bc I dont live in Japan but it would make a lot of sense for why a lot of times Japan never really stacks up mechanically with most of APAC

edit: it would also explain why JP produces so much viewership

their tier2 only looks good because they are all in the same low level... I remember there was an offseason tournament where old TS fought Fennel(JP best team at that time) and they got demolished by jessievash.
This syouta guy plays like demon1 in JP tier2 but in tier1 he looks like platinum.
Not sure about this but apparently JP tier2 players have same salary or more than JP tier1 players.
Those "massive talent pool" are afraid to go to tier1 because they know that they won't perform well like they do in their tier2.

Yeah T2 Japan is a bigger scene. Heard once that Japan T2 players make more money without the T1 pressure, so they rarely want to go up. I forgot from where but it was discussed in a podcast, maybe Plat Chat?

riot dont have meritocracy at all in them, in the end viewership and money talks

idk i think they should do something about the franchise system, just make it 1 year contract and make everyone fight for their arse to keep the slot, not giveaway like their doing now
