can someone explain to me how babybay was better than seven or demon1 in g2 tryouts?
to me this choice feels way more like they picked him because they’re already friends with babybay, g2 with some heavy nepotism going on

if they needed performance + vibes, seven was the perfect pickup. leaf wouldn’t even need to change roles

How are we, a random vlr site users supposed to know what happened in trial unless it's just an assumption

demon1 was still contracted to lev, not worth getting him just to stand in for leaf

babybay farmed as their sub, brought great energy, and didn't cost a buy out. they won stage 2 with him so when they had to make a last minute change they went with him. the jonahp change was not planned.

He was frying in tryouts. Literally top fragging every other map.

lowkey i prefer leaf flex over leaf sentinel he gets way more active on flex

Can you explain what makes you say that? Because leaf’s offseason performances on flex were significantly worse than even his worst sentinel event last season. And his one match played so far this year was good but just a typical game for him compared to his last year’s average performances, it was nothing out of the ordinary.

i agree the off season performances weren't great but from the small sample size i really like how involved he is in the rounds like obviously you want your senti to have good mechanics and he does that but when you have a trade fragger as good as him i feel like it allows for more impact on average and i think as the season goes on he should only get better at it

I wouldn't say he outdueled him. Watching Bind, it wasn't just beating him in duels. Babybay's support was generally better, and in the end it was a pretty even match. Cryo was still 24/14 on that map.

Seven was probs because they tested leaf as a flex and thought the overall package was better (Leaf flex Babybay Sentinel > Seven flex Leaf Sentinel)

Demon1 likely didn't fit in with G2 style

I don't think he was brought in because he performed better, I think he was most likely brought in for mentality and having a positive effect on the team. Its kind of like zellsis vs pancada, was zellsis better as a player, no, but he was better for Sen because of things other than mechanics.

Agreed. this was likely the main reason. Sometimes you don't need the best player, just the supportive one that will get people out of their slump or vocally push them to be positive and keep morale up. I can see that being the main factor. Aka the vibe guy that will keep them going when things aren't looking good. as long as he doesn't have FNS / Boaster level shooting he can hold his own while still doing his job for the team.

yaa seven would be good vibes but 1st they needed only to fill till leaf comeback so babybay would cost less and he also has vibes and experiance to guide them so maybe that's main reason

cuz theyre dumbasses

hes a mini jonahp with vibes merchant energy. the perfect fit but looks like they wanted pure vibes and a 'chamber player'

They openly talked about D1 vs babybay (anderzz stream/others) that demon1 performed well, it was just that Babybay was as better overall fit. and his performance has been consistent to prove that.

Not my place to speak about team decisions into this year as i went through trials with G2, but when people bring up rookies/returning talent there's a lot misunderstood about being inserted into a top team with top level expectations. Thats not to say seven couldnt have handled it, but just worth noting when people go "why not x over y", etc. The decisions arent easy and often factor these points in mind.

Obviously given what you’ve said, there’s no way to 100% confirm that they didn’t pick up seven bc they thought he couldn’t handle the pressure of playing for a team like that as a rookie, but in the situation where that was the case, that would really fucking suck if it were true bc IMO it’s basically the antithesis of their career stories, particularly trent and valyn’s. I mean they were unproven talents who weren’t given the opportunity despite their talents and had to prove everyone wrong.

There is a very big difference between TGRD getting in through Ascension vs adding a player in an established system with high expectations where everyone is operating on "this is the final year we have" before massive changes next year. Thats not to say i dont think seven is good or didnt deserve a shot, but theres a lot of assumptions being made about rosters moves/why. The moves made werent as cookie cutter as public perception believes it to be. And it also downplays Babybays performance, and leafs, in terms of what they have shown.

Wish i could say more, but its not my place to really discuss roster moves.

why does everyone forget that babybay used to demolish in the pro scene. He was thanos when he was on faze. Also the guy was frying back on overwatch when he was pro. Yea he doesn't have a deep agent pool sure, but there are intangibles that he does have. also agent pool isn't even that much of a factor when other pros also dont have deep agent pools
