This league format also extends it to stupidly long tournament when its not needed. One match a week for each team, what a joke. Even basketball / football players have more than one match a week when its season

True, but competition is not the only thing ot have into consideration. In the end, it's a business. Would you watch matches on a Tuesday?? Maybe yes, but a lot of people can't afford it.

teams and players prefer it too because it allows them to practice between matches rather than playing 3 matches back to back to back and burning out quickly. as a viewer, I prefer tournaments to have a longer group stage rather than lasting a wekk or two total and then no tier 1 valorant for the next 2 months

How do you know players prefer it? Look at how cs is doing. There you have highest level t1 international tourneys at least once every two months. With valorant you have riot not letting 3rd party organizers in and just shamefully taking huge portion of the season's time with regionals which can easily be done much quicker. Unles you have a favourite team, you dont really have many best vs best matches to watch because most of them are half assed teams bikering around. Another thing very wrong with valorant regionals is that finals mean nothing other than a bit more money for teams. I dont think many viewers care about that, I surely dont. Finals should be the peak of the tournaments and I personally watched maybe once or twice and I tune in to eu, emea and na tournaments.
