Don't worry too much. If fly or any west team makes top 8 then it is already a huge win for them. Top 4 is like winning worlds. So cheer for them to make top 8. It shouldn't be very hard tho cause riot always makes ass formats to create disadvantage for lpl/lck teams so that a western team can make top 8.
Anyway if you like tough and intense competition between regions and actual competitive games then you should avoid this worlds. Very likely chances of this worlds being the most boring one till date cause of how ass lpl is this year so no competition for geng or t1 unless they fall off.
West never been playing catch up tho. Playing catch-up is like china in val behind by 2 years from other regions cause of things like game delay or official region launch delay.
Popularity thing is true tho yeah. Moba was never big in na and for eu the playerbase is divided with dota 2 and eSports culture overall is still not as huge there.
For na tbh moba scene was never gonna flourish long term. The esports for moba is basically dead in na. As for eu i don't really know the reason tbh other than work eithics being poor. Like their talent pool is better than lpl or china but they still suck ass. Work ethics is really the big problem for eu ig. Only good region rn is lck or Korea. Esports culture there is just a lot better there especially for league.
In league It's always been a competition between 3 or 4 teams at max every year for trophies but at least lpl was competitive but this year lpl has looked the worst they have looked in last decade. So this worlds has huge potential to be a competition between t1 and geng only unless they fall off.
you destroy base = you win
destroying turrets = more map control
killing dragons = more buffs (especially soul and elder dragon)
killing herald (one before baron) = can easily destroy a turret
killing baron = big buff and you can push enemy team more since minions also get buffed
killing enemy champion = more gold
more gold = you can buy your dmg items faster than the enemy
