G2 are strategically solid and last year, I think they had their strats perfectly aligned with how the meta was then. The main issue was undeniably icy - his lack of frags and the fact that his gunfights felt a lot more wobbly compared to other duelists definitely gave a lot of people a reason to hate G2 as they won maps and games when they shouldn't have in theory.
This year, they definitely looked like they had the strats dialled in with Tejo, but I think they tried to cook with something that was not so flexible. Definitely a bit of cockiness, but I would say G2 strats this year didn't feel amazing and the map pool was definitely not one of their best to work with. It definitely felt like G2 tried to streamline their comps too much, but it could have potentially worked out. Today, they definitely fumbled the veto by giving DRX Abyss and Bind which are their two favourite maps.
A little tangent here: this is part of why I don't like Americas as much - their comps often feel heavily recycled from previous years with nothing super out-there cooked up like double-dive or niche picks like Chamber or Sage. The golden era concludes disappointingly and they should probably stick together since they are all competent players, but just need to have a little bit more of an X-factor.
