what's the problem
Loud died so the brazillians left. Japanese are sad that their teams suck. EMEA hsant had a star team that wins events since 2023 FNC (Heretics have potential here). And most importantly.... Tenz left so Sentinels lost some pull. Also they got squashed in Bangkok.
On the plus side Indo and vietnamese are massively up. You can build some real fanbases here. The french are also massively up. Gm8 must be partnered pretty much with what theyre doing for Valo without even winning shit. Also they should follow Mixwells org. Seems like they have big potential for spanish market. Also they need to pray that KOI finally figures their shit out so spanish people actually bother watching.
Also they could consider roadshows like LEC is doing which has been massively successful. Selling out arenas and building fancultures around the continet. Like do a weeks matches in Madrid. Another week in Paris and so on. It is also a failure that they havent done anything with Germany. They need a german org that is strong with Fans. Obvious answer to me is pushing Fokus.
In america they have to pray MiBr sticks around and builds rivalrys and makes some interesting runs. Brazillians need a team to rally around
people here pick niche reasons but actually VCT franchising is boring by structure , nobody wants to see Sen vs 100T 5 times a year with rigged brackets and same result and nobody wants to see same 4-5 teams qualify every year, same teams suck every year and obviously a group stage while great for competition isnt as exciting and high stakes as double elimination knockout formats of past where every match was unskippable . The first year was carried by familiarity and hype for new franchise system but this is will only keep going down as dust settles . The complete division and disconnect with tier 2 also alienates the fanbase of regions which dont have representation in Tier 1 and completely render most tier 2 matches no stake involved.
Kickoff was less exciting this year compared to 2024 (we had so many clout orgs in that tournament) which then helped carry over casual viewers to the VCT International Leagues.
Spanish viewership decrease can honestly be blamed on LEV going from a South America rep to a North American rep making it basically KRÜ having to carry to Spanish viewership now
As the article says Tenz' retirement and LOUD's disappointing performance also almost certainly affected things too but I'd honestly say Sacy's also likely played a large part in the decrease in SEN's average viewership
EMEA I blame the tech pauses honestly
Pacific I'd say the start of 2025 felt like Korean domination which then led to loss in SEA and Japanese viewers at the start and the SEA viewership only slowly coming back now with RRQ, PRX and BOOM doing well oh and probably Paper Rex looking wobbly throughout Stage 1 / kickoff
Viewership is down because there’s barely anything to watch. Tournament schedule is ass. The same 20 teams are recycling mostly the same 50 peoplers.
Rito has too tight a grip on what’s going on. They franchised multiple years too early, in a way that not just makes T1 less exciting, but T2 a zero sum game for orgs.
If valorant esports continues to go downhill, you can only blame riot for it
