rather than who you think the event winner will be

who do you think if they dont win toronto will be the biggest disappointment compared to expectation

cause its probably G2 right ? or Heretics? or someone else

i think if g2 or heretics get no wins at Toronto and bomb out, it will be really bad compared to their expectations.
i also think that if sen or wolves/blg don't get out or even a win in groups, it will be a disappointment.

im talking specifically about winning the event

ah, then probably g2 and heretics yes. to a lesser extent fnc. probably sen too (for sen fans at least).

i don’t expect sen to get past 3rd place. if they bomb out in swiss again then that’s a dissapointment

they likely will icl
competition is fierce with PRX wolves and whoever quals from EMEA all looking strong

The favorite team to win the tournament rarely actually wins the tournament in Valorant

its more half and half. geng and sen were favored last year, edg and t1 were clear upsets. For Toronto Id say G2,geng, TH (as long as they don't bomb out in the remaining matches) are favorites. In americas I don't really see sen winning because of a lack of a elite sova player, mibr doesn't seem to be able to match strat wise against stronger teams (way too reliant on firepower IMO). In emea fnc is good but they are underdog, TL lacks the clutch gene / a bit of firepower. In china I can only see xlg going on a run, but idk their agent depth. In apac idk how good rrq and prx will be since prx bombed out last year and rrq almost lost to that same core from last year.

rrq probably the biggest dark horse in toronto

prx might do good because sunset is back in the map pool

TH also might do good for that same reason, they were best sunset team. also keep in mind PRX looked the best on sunset with monyet, who they dont have anymore

For a lot of the tournaments for the last 3 years its been something like this (correct me if im wrong):

favorites for Copenhagen: Optic
winners: FPX

favorites for Champions 2022: FPX, PRX, Optic
winners: LOUD

favorites for Lockin: LOUD, NRG, NAVI
winners: FNC

favorites for Tokyo: LOUD, PRX (FNC lost EMEA finals)
winners: FNC

favorites for Champions 23: FNC
winners: EG

favorites for Madrid: PRX, GENG, KC, TH
winners: SEN

favorites for Shanghai: PRX, 100T
winners: GENG

favorites for Champions 2024: GENG, LEV, G2, DRX, TH, FNC
winners: EDG

favorites for Bangkok: Vitality, G2
winners: T1

favorites for Toronto: G2, TH
winners: ???

i think ur just tryna make a point, some of these just r not true

#24

which one of these are just not true?

I think most of them are true

thats why i said that "rarely" the team that is the favorite to win actually wins in Valorant

Literally all of these except Bangkok, Champs 2024, Champs 2023 (which you manipulated because EG were top 3 favorites for sure), Copenhagen (kinda) are wrong. Oh and Champs 2022 is pretty accurate

i didnt include EG in favorites for Champs 2023 because FNC were probably the most HEAVY favorites to win a tournament at that time, the narrative was "who will stop FNC?"

They were favorites but I wouldn't even say as heavy favorites as g2 and vitality were at bangkok. There was hella PRX hype because they got 3rd with a sub and then their best player was finally returning. Right behind those 2 was EG so it wasn't a crazy underdog win or anything

sen were definitely favorites in madrid

EG PRX and FNC were the favorites in champs but more leaning towards PRX and FNC

what you say is probably true, but still most of the tournaments, the favorite to win doesnt win, and its very likely to happen again since Toronto will be played with the Tejo nerfs and there probably will be meta shifts where a team people doesnt expect to win, wins

fnc not favorites for lock in? lol what?
most people didn't rate NRG and Loud particularly highly since both cores "downgraded", i saw them mostly at A tier while fnatic was at S tier.

fnatic were known as chokers before 2023. you're saying that with the hindsight of their wins in 2023. Boaster and Derke were basically the stax and Buzz (pre-bangkok) of EMEA. Alfajer and Leo were not in conversations for best player itw(the best players were playing in Optic, LOUD, FPX, DRX and PRX). The only "big" name at that time before lockin on that team was Chronicle with his 2021 win with Gambit.

at Lockin you had the LOUD core as the current World Champions. NRG had the Optic core, that had 1st, 3rd and 2nd as their placements the year before and NAVI had FPX players as the last EMEA champions (Masters Copenhagen). DRX were also very good as they placed 3rd at Champions 2022

GenG. Asia won 3 of last 3 internationals. GenG is the KR scrim mafia and expectation is for asia to keep hold on to international trophy for foreseeable future. Shanghai final repeat of TH vs GenG is the stage for Toronto.

Seed #1 bombing out is a tradition

Masters shanghai it was FNC and champs Seoul it was GENG

So most likely XLG (even though not many people expect much from them) or could it be G2?

I think g2 have the highest expectations, especially because they didn't win bangkok

I want GENG to win but man if heretics don't win, its gon be sad bro like they have been runner ups for last 2 out of the three internationals

G2 are surely the betting favorites to win it all so if they don't then fans will be concerned. Heretics have rebounded nicely after a quite dismal finish in kickoff but I still worry that they could lose their form in an instant, plus they haven't won any grand final since VCT. Obviously if TH win stage 1 I think they should fully expect to win it all. Other than that, most of the other teams either lack international experience or haven't been good enough this year specifically.
