budget 700-1000 usd
update: 900-1200 usd to account for am5 and ddr5 (might be less if I snag some discounts!)

Pretty sure that this build will more than enough satisfy the games I will play and last for 5-10 yrs.
I'm still not completley settled on a psu since I want to prioritize less noise and longevity HOWEVER does it really matter since there the other fans in the total build exist? eh. either way, I'm having trouble finding some quiet and cheaper alternatives to the current psu, probably something that'll match noise levels of the rest of the build.

Anyways, I've settled on the 5700x and rx 6600. Going above 6600 just doesn't feel worth it to my needs, and I think 5700x is probably the best low budget cpu for me. As for RAM, I'm still researching. 1 TB storage is definetley going to be enough for me, I think. I will do some calculations with the games I want to have installed and make sure I have overhead, if not, I'll use the same brand NVMe ssd but just 1 TB instead. Need to research diff between two 1 tb vs one 2 tb. After some debate, I will choke up a few extra dollars for the rgb, it must be done sigh.

seems like a terorrist build
AM4 and DDR4 ram will not last you for 5-10years.

it is still a good build but def not future proof

dang why's that? how much of a difference would yam5 and ddr5 ram make?

If you ever need an upgrade in the future, AM5 will have much more capable CPU's, and their performance is also superior, the extra cores, threads or cache will make a difference, being able to handle DDR5 pretty well will be a big deal, if you go check some benchmark videos, the difference between DDR4 to DDR5 is already pretty decent, and for tac fps they give you way better latency. Right now it may not seem like an insane difference, but games are being less and less optimized, and being way more heavy on your PC rather than optimizing their engine well, and it may be problematic considering Valorant has already said they plan to change to UE5.

If you do really want to future proof your PC, AM5 socket and DDR5 are your best bet

Whats ur budget?

5700x is horrible, 5700X3D/5800X3D is the only sensible AM4 option bcus the 5700X is pretty trash. Also this will last you max 3-5 years if u are cool with lowering settings everytime a game releases on a new engine

5700x3d and 5800x3d are also a lot more expensive

Which is why you scrap the AM4 and go for a 7600x/7700x, better performance, far more upgradability, for not too much more. AM4 is not lasting nearly what they want out of this build

the 5700x here is 130 bucks, i can only find a 7600x for 210 at discount. 80 bucks increases the cost of the build by 10%

10% from the cpu alone, then theres a major boost from DDR5. and they need AM5 if they want to keep this PC for as long as they want it

thanks for the advice!!!! definetley don't want to be upgrading everything just bc the cpu shits the bed right?

exactly. i just upgraded to a 5800X since it was only $120 near me, but as soon as i spend any higher than that im just getting a new rig lol

700-1000 not including peripherals. man i thought 5700x was an alright budget cpu, is the extra 100 bucks worth it? or is switching to am5 the only way Im going to get 5-10 yrs? I don't plan on playing beefy games. Dedicated mainly for val and cs2.

put the 100 into an am5 cpu, 7600x/7700x is around that increase, and ddr5 budget ram is only gonna be like $10-20 more and way better. MOBO is easily same price. AM4 is basically dead, its still good, but if you ever want to upgrade one component to AM5 u need to upgrade everything.

i see... so like the am4 generation is ending atm?

#18

pretty much. it isnt flat out dead but i dont think AMD is ever gonna go back to AM4 since budget AM5 is already thing. If this was a quick budget pc for 1-2 years max, AM4 is very viable.

something like this:
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mBr24p

You can swap the 7700X for a 7600X to help the budget, considering u want it mostly for val and cs, its a good idea to beef the cpu more since its a cpu intensive use. otherwise id say upgrade the gpu, since most heavy games require gpu usage.

the PSU is very good, you can even find one for a bit cheaper but u can never go wrong with investing into a PSU. they dont make that much noise and all u rly need is enough wattage and a largely reviewed product from a reputable brand.

yes!!! I hear that the psu is like ur insurance, for better pc's, don't cheap out on it.

#21

Exactly.

Higher wattage = upgradability

Modularity = cable management and features (not a big deal)

power rating and reputability = less chance of that shit blowing up and destroying your entire rig

^ good build
If you want the best latency you need CL30 ram tho

#26

Yes, i wasnt looking at the ram specifications when i made it icl. just saw the first brand i know at that price

ram is pretty simple for ddr5 i believe. just find a well known product with good Mhz (higher = better) and CL (lower = better)

Do you guys reccomend sitting on my list until a certain part reaches a good price? buying part by part? or will that not make much a difference and is really part dependent>?

#22

when do you want it?

fast, buy them part by part and search for sales

not rn, go sale by sale and maybe even cop some new releases that fit ur criteria

#25

I'm not in a rush, probably in the next few months, I could save up more! wdym sale by sale? sorry

#28

basically if ur deadline is like 3 months from now, then each part is bound to be on sale atleast once somewhere, so stay up to date with those.

if you see your PSU go on sale buy it, if you want a 7700X but the 7600X is on a sale so good that ur willing to cut performance by a bit to save a lot of money, then do that.

where do you plan on buying them? you can buy second hand / refurbished components at a pretty good price on ebay, add an item to ur basket and overtime the seller might send u offers offering the item at even cheaper. be careful which parts you buy second hand though, SSD’s and GPU’s are kinda risky to buy second hand so you wanna make sure its from a reputable seller with a good rating and clear product description.

if you plan on buying new then ignore this and do what other people are saying

cool! so everything but the ssd and gpu is pretty reliable? given a good seller, etc.

I do want to be able to use this pc for 5-10 yrs without upgrades so not sure atm if buying used stuff will shorten the lifespan alot?

#38
taint

yeah ssd’s have limited write cycles so used ones may be near their lifespan. gpus may be used for mining or may have been subject to poor cooling so their performance would be much worse than expected

buying used would decrease ur pc’s lifespan, but sometimes you’ll see a seller hasn’t used a component that much so its quality wouldn’t have deteriorated that much, if ur on a budget it’s definitely worth looking into. if ur prioritising the longevity of ur pc though then buying new is optimal .

wait for a bit, if you could. let the new parts prices goes down a little bit.
in about 4-5 months from now, you'll get much more reasonable price from last gen hardware.
