I saw a clip from 2022 lcq that was sen vs the guard and the stream was averaging 160k viewers on the main broadcast, wtf
finally i get a small thread where i wont have to argue with 25000 people, so i can drop my hot take: costreaming (more specifically English costreaming) killed esports.
It fractured (lol) the viewership, like 150k on one stream looks way more attractive to both random people who are looking for something to watch and sponsors who see big number = must be good to invest in. It looks more attractive than 15k viewers on 10 separate streams.
Esports wasnt big enough yet to afford this kind of fragmentation to the viewership.
Then theres also the branding issues, like we are seeing in League, like idk wtf rito was thinking to kill the LCS brand and change it to some soulless LTA shit that half the ppl dont even know what it is. If viewership is the problem, fix that with content that worked before that people want to watch and follow. It has very little to do with the regions international success
Also, idk why companies are so hellbent on trying to change culture, in my opinion at least, NA vs EU sounds a LOT better than "Americas vs EMEA" It just doesnt hit the same. This is subjective but im sure im not the only one who would prefer the NA and EU abbreviations.
