You can find them in other modes as well. Think I've ran into 3 or so in TDM and gotten a buddy through that.

I've never seen a dev in my lobby 😭😭
I think there's just way fewer in EU, most of the people who I've heard of getting the buddy (from in game) are from NA

~750 hours in comp
~200 in unrated (idk how, I feel like I've almost never played)
~30 in TDM
~90 in Swift
~80 in Spike Rush
(started playing in late 2020)

Nearly all of my Spike Rush hours are from before Swift was a thing. I enjoy Swift as I get to at least pretend I'm playing real Val while also not being locked into a 40 minute game. Also enjoy that people usually don't just give up and leave in a Swift because the game is short enough to just finish it out. Two accounts, one is level 500+ the other is <50.

Edit: FWIW I play on NA East server, so it seems VERRRRRY rare to run into a Rito employee.

apparently, but from what I'm gathering it might just be an NA west coast thing since the vast majority of devs are from there
it seems the only reliable way to get one on EU is to know a dev so I'm cooked (I don't even know anyone who knows a dev)

I’ve met 10-20 riot devs at least , maybe even more, in swiftplay. I play on NorCal servers though so that helps

I've seen like 9 riot devs (3 in my comp games) and STILL haven't received a riot buddy, they all lurk in the California servers.

You kinda have to have a connection to get a riot buddy, it's not very often to give them out to random people.

I see all these clips of people in high elo who don't have any sort of content following who have buddies, so it must be connections

most people with riot buddies either have a connection to a riot dev outside of just a random swiftplay match, you're a girl or you get a super toxic player on your team and you step up for someone (and even then probably not gonna get a buddy) otherwise devs really don't care about you, just another cog in the wheel. either way you have to be queuing cali servers to meet any so unless you are west coast you're screwed (besides holidays where riot devs are home, I met one during thanksgiving on Texas servers)

To all the people who have hundreds of hours in swiftplay. Why? What is wrong with u? Just play unrated at least like a real man. No reason to plat swiftplay. ESPECIALLY if ur playing with someone else, just que unrated and play a real mans game.
