EG vs China situation

just my take, but it's so unbelievably embarassing to watch, and embarassing for the players
Punching down at a region where the game has been out officially for barely a month, being antagonistic out of game and in the server with no prior reason than feeling like you want to be a villain. They're fighting a version of chinese valorant in their head that doesn't even exist, taking the cheapest shots possible at a region that's just growing.
if demon1 and boostio want to do stuff like this at least target it at something else
"i don't give a fuck what anyone thinks" well they clearly do or they wouldn't be fighting so hard for attention like this. you don't see them shittalking anyone else because they've found the easiest target with the most hype behind it and are happy with that

At the end of the day they are getting what they want which are impressions even though most of them are negative

The narrative that China just got valorant is so wrong. Chinese players literally had access to better pings compared to south african players. Heck, even russian players had to play on worst pings. Most chinese players also played in HK and TW teams, which were part of APAC qualifiers before franchising.

i said "officially" for a reason. and the fact that there was extremely limited official support has definitely led to the region being further behind than the others

They just couldn't compete, but they certainly had 3rd party tourneys, and played along with Korean and Japanese pros and scrimmed few APAC teams. Many pros also played official tournaments in HK and TW teams which had an official VCT circuit. TBH, SA (Sount Asia), Middle East were included much later. OCE were honestly fked around and RSA is still non-existent.

Tier 2 teams everywhere also have 3rd party tourneys and scrim franchise teams, and yet they are still far behind. That's not really an argument. Having its own stable VCT ecosystem with pocket money from Riot, regular international competition and everything makes a huge difference. Just look at the roughly 1 year of Chinese competition internationally.

APAC LCQ - EDG participates, wins
Champs 2022 - no wins for EDG
Lock//in - no win for EDG or FPX
Tokyo - no wins for ASE, EDG get 5th-6th
Champs - no wins for FPX; BLG and EDG make it out of groups (tbc)

In just this short span of being able to compete internationally, EDG went from being a team that didn't stand a chance to a genuine competitor for top 4, and Bilibili beat NRG twice to make playoffs. It's very obvious that this scene will keep evolving and catch up to the other regions pretty soon, if you actually think the ecosystem doesn't play a role and they're just bad, idk what games you're watching

EDG has been attending international events for multiple years, no excuses for them. MAYBE you could say that they have a lack of good practice, but they still have scrimmed plenty of international teams while traveling for masters/champions

1 year you mean
LCQ East Asia was the first multiregional and Champs 2022 was the first international with EDG being the one participating in both. It's more so that the official talent pipeline in CN will become much more slick following the release. I also dont know why we don't talk about BLG either who've only been a complete team for a few months. The fact that they went from 0 in playoffs to 2 in playoffs is maybe a sign of rapid improvement? Idk

tl;dr - i think what eg are doing is a bit much.

yeah. def think it can be excessive. i felt that way with fpx given a) it was unprovoked shittalking towards a team that was already unfavored to win, and b) they (eg) were the favorites to win the entire bracket and c) to my knowledge, fpx have never said anything, and all bilibili and edg do are showboat after popping off irl (which who doesn't).

not trying to infantilize the competitors on the chinese teams since the players we see today aren't 100% new to the scene, but you're right in that there wasn't any official support until just recently. it is punching down imo to shittalk a region to this extent. don't want to make this even longer but when people shittalk emea or na, the dynamics are different.

What all boostio said is that china is bad and you seem to agree with that? He just spoke truth when people acted like edg is actually a favorite πŸ’€
