The halo effect was by conducting a psychological experiment that researchers did in public (and example that I can up with can't be bothered to find the actual experiment environment) where they got two female actors: one that was conventionally attractive and one that by society standards was not conventionally attractive. The experiment was that they placed the two female actors in the exact same situation separately where they pretended that their car broke down and needed help and their findings was that the more conventionally attractive woman would get more help and attention then others compared to the other woman. The researchers The experiment was done for a number of reasons but it does show how the sentence "looks don't matter" doesn't really apply to real life how people judge others based on their looks before ever talking to them.
