American Football

I'm new to this, and I mostly watch FIFA football but I want to try watching new sport. What do I need to know before watching this eggball sport?

I watched this sport for the first time this year during the Super Bowl and I was not ready for the sheer amount of pauses. Like, the whistle is blown and they run at each other and then the whistle is blown again almost immediately and they stop and switch out every single player. I'm definitely not an expert and there's probably some merit to watching American Football but if you're used to football then it's probablty not going to hit as good.

1. Any call a ref makes is a bad one that favors the other team even when its actually not.
2. Ad breaks are atrocious
3. Two sides of the ball offense and defense, the offense tries to score and then the defense tries to stop the offense from scoring.
4. There are also what are called special teams that specialize in things like scoring field goals, kicking the ball, recieving a kicked ball, punting the ball etc.
5. There are a lot of ways for points to be scored and you just kind of learn it as you watch but the most common are touchdown (6 pts) + extra point(Basically a fieldgoad but only worth one point almost always taken after a team scores a touchdown) and then a field goal (3pts). There are quite a bit more ways to score but I just gave the ones you're most likely to see.

I tried to learn how this sport works on YouTube but it fried my brain. Really hard to understand what's going on.
