Sentinels are doom

Sentinels (role) will probably be less and less meta more the team are coordinated and have more knowledge of the game.

tldw ;

  • Controller are just better than Sentinel on every plan
  • Sentinel got the Reyna Paradox, either balance for proplay and broken in soloQ, or balance for soloQ and useless in proplauy
  • In defense either sentinel have no counterplay and will be nerf, or will have some counterplay, and a coordinated team will counter it.
  • In attack Covering flank is better with a Controller than a Sentinel
  • Sentinel will continue to destroy your soloQ

can you elaborate on this? bc isnt a cypher trip just way better for passive info than a controller having to watch flank in person?

I did a lot in the video, i recommend to watch it but to be short :
Sentinel on a side while lurking vs a controller on lurk.
The controller can be usefull and still smoke almost everywhere, (And even smoke for himself to help lurk), while the sentinel have is util only for himself, and his usefull only if he stays passive wish isnt usually a good choice.
A Sentinel could also put his trap and stay with rest of the map, but Packing at 5 is usually a bad choice strategically.

i main DL and Veto with 65%+ wr also with Chamber 60%+ so i think its not the role that obsolete. Its the people that dont know how to play the role properly thats the problem

I'm specifically saying it's good in soloQ, you can't use your soloQ WR as an argument to say it's good in proplay, especially since it's my point, thats sentinels are way better in soloQ than in proplay. (And I doubt proplayer don't know how to play deadlock)

I feel like Senti has always had a big balancing problem, like rito always makes them too powerful or too weak, like current chamber is practically the only time done it right.

I think this map pool just isn't really sentinels favored at the moment, leading to a very deflated sentinel pick rate. Icebox and Ascent were two maps where sentinels were almost must picks (KJ had a 91% pickrate on Icebox in Toronto, the last major event when it was in the map pool, and vyze had a 68% and cypher had a 32% pickrate on Ascent in Champs 2025), and now they're out of the map pool. Compare that to nowadays where Bind and Split are two of the most popular maps and they always have been maps where double controller no sentinel has always been popular. Plus I think that we are going to see a rise in chamber usage bc honestly I don't think everyone has realized yet that one of the best paths to winning is abusing the outlaw and OP right now and chamber is one of the best agents to enable that.

Maps like Haven and Pearl still do show that sentinels are fairly popular, they just aren't as universal as duelists, initiatiors, and controllers are. Locking down sites is a job that controllers can do on certain maps, but on maps where your defenses are stretched very thin like Haven or Lotus where you have to defend 3 sites or maps with massive and complex sites like Icebox having a defensive specialist who can passively control more ground is very important.

TLDR:
I don't think sentinels are doomed, they just have a shit map pool and are inherently situational

Are you sure this is true in a double controller meta ?

Furia and BBL are currently dominating right now with heavy sniper pick rates, I’m pretty sure I saw some stat like Lovers Rock is picking scoped weapons 51% of rounds. AWPing always has been an incredibly broken win condition and probably always will be as long as the AWP has one shot kill potential, you just have to be much more creative with it now that controllers can block more sightlines

I do think even if it's working right now it's something that can be antistrated, they are always way to cut every lines

well if you are antistratting specifically to deal with an AWP that's still a good thing for the AWPer, needing to dedicate resources to push a single player off a sightline means less utility available for the postplant and site hit.

You can antistrat with a few ressources, this is kinda my whole point sentinel doesnt need a lot of plan to get anti ^^

I think that sentinels (class) will be completely fine. Chamber's kit is really good for mechanical demons in both ranked and proplay, KJ has good plant stalling potential in both and can control a lot of valuable space with her util, idk anything about veto so im not gonna act like i know what im talking ab w him, sage can slow pushes super easily w orbs, cypher and vyse both need rebuffed, and deadlock as a whole needs reworked imo

Controller are better staller than any sentinels in proplay because you cant break a smoke
