It's a group stage match, having it on stage with at least a little crowd is a big W for a tournament like this.
Rather than having group stage matches in a studio format like other esports have, where most or half teams do not experience international stage matches at all.
Also, it's almost impossible to get a huge crowd and hype for a regular group stage match of 16 16-team tournament.
People naturally won't show up unless it's a high-stakes match.

Stop comparing it to other VALORANT events where huge crowd gathers for the latest stages of competition.
It's just stupid, please chill your emotions, and don't do that.

Enjoy matches of different regional teams battling against each other, isn't it the most interesting about the event?

What do you think makes it a terribly organized event?

At least we did not have tech pauses, and it started on time :)

the fact that the stage design already looks awful, plus new HUD + sometimes they don't show replays

The stadium looks like some illegal street fight cage and the lighting is so bad.

The lighting is bad because if they turn on all the light on stage it would shown all the empty seats... like holyshit its empty as fuck in paris lmao.. Even Master bangkok and master toronto are much more "full" than this paris Champs.

If they turn on the lights all we are gonna see is dirty and broken chairs and stairs that also the reason many fans didn't go for this

Format matters here.
8-teams Masters event with Swiss stage first vs 16-teams Chamions event with group stage.
Big difference.

Then how do you explain Champion istanbul 2022?? or Champion LA 2023???
all those champs has pretty much the same number of teams (16 team) but the stage and production are far more better than current paris group stage.

my bff used to live in paris... it's an amazing city, if you are in the right neighborhoods. But if you aren't, well, i can agree with your statement.

that's the problem, only the "richest" neighborhoods are goods, rest is shit, it's like london, there's a lot of trash, tant, drug dealers—are we in a third world country or something?

Every country in the world ? Reassure me, have you ever been to France? Do you follow geopolitics there? it's just bullshit to reassure yourself, either you've never traveled in your life, or you're still a social media person who's been brainwashed. This is what happens when a country takes in too many foreigners, like France. Unlike some countries that limit this, France is too lax. You should know that the country is in a sorry state, even economically. France is supposed to be a “rich” and clean country, but only the elite are rich, the people are becoming poorer, the real French are disappearing and being replaced by foreigners. This country is not France.

oh no no you are right. i meant to say that approximately every country has rich and poor people and according to the money their neighbourhoods are also different, every country has trash, drug dealers wheather it is a first or third world country

''It's a group stage match, having it on stage with at least a little crowd is a big W for a tournament like this.'' - but then you have events like PerfectWorld Shanghai Major or Rio 2022 major where almost a full crowd was there, and it was some random ass 0-2 game in the opening stage

''Rather than having group stage matches in a studio format like other esports have, where most or half teams do not experience international stage matches at all.'' Other esports have more events where the apparent best 4 teams of any region have a chance to enjoy actual good big crowds

''Stop comparing it to other VALORANT events where huge crowd gathers for the latest stages of competition.'' In my opinion comparing it to other Valorant events is the best bet, people ask Riot to keep their standards at a high level, as they rightfully should

Honestly, I doubt there are many places in the world where you can get a packed arena for group stage matches, especially not on Saturday or Sunday. Maybe only China, but I also doubt it to be honest. I think it would be up to the match.
Even in Seoul last year, there was kinda similar situation for the first day of the tournament. And they had local teams playing in.
This year in Paris, the only French representative is PRX Alex :)
No French clubs, which also has its effect.

Rio 2022 had many games where there was very little crowd, especially in matches where no Brazil\LATAM players played.
Wasn't the Shanghai Major a very anticipated event by many?
It's like IEM's in Australia got plenty people because it's rare thing over there (with stage matches only for playoffs btw).

But then having crowd for groups is useless? most of group games will happen when Europeans have work (except for Sundays), then axe the crowd for this time and focus on great production. Stage, Arena, Replays, OBS, HUD. ''OOo we have a crowd in groups'' but then the arena looks like a backstreet 5v5 Local LAN, like I am pretty sure you come from CS, doesn't it look to you like something Starladder would host at CyberArena in Kyiv?

As one who played in StarLadder events (in Kyiv and in China), I would choose at least some kind of arena \ stage matches, instead of matches with no crowd for most of the tournament.

Also, back then, I was pretty close to people in StarLadder, and I know the struggles behind making and event that lasts many days or multiple weeks.
You just can't get a lot of people watching everything. Viewers get exhausted even if you start big with banger matches. You still have to know how to have hype days and regular days and live with that.

Out of my experience as a competitor, having a "little crowd" stage matches is always a lot better than a studio format. Because it's the best you have in esports, and playing from a "studio" is almost like playing from a bootcamp.

but won't studio games be ultimately less interesting than any arena game?

#20
Johnta

exactly
but also depends on the match
any studio match feels less exciting by default

Even a little crowd doesn't change a lot tho, it's like 300-400 people, and it's a low stakes match, I just don't think the costs are worth the show

yeah i feel like crowd mics are great for people watching streams and also gives a sense of hype even if very little crowd is actually present. Hasnt valo had issues with crowd mic volumes for some time now?

#27

Maybe they are afraid of cases like in one of the recent CS events, where people around the mics were yelling inappropriate things, and it got into a broadcast.
