VCT Stage 1 gave advantages to the 3rd-4th teams of each region in the EWC qualifiers. By calling EWC "Mickey Mouse", you are calling VCT Stage 1 "Mickey Mouse" and Toronto "Mickey Mouse" as teams qualified to Toronto through VCT Stage 1.

also both teams get 3 bans each and play on the non-banned map. Seems fair enough for an opening match.

Single Elim - are all big Counter-Strike tournaments invalid to you? I prefer Single Elim. That way the grand final is actually fair unlike double-elimination VCT internationals where the team that gets to the grand finals from the upper bracket gets a 2-map ban advantage (leading to an unfair grand final).

At the end of the day the prestige of a tournament is entirely based upon subjective opinions formed in consideration with objective data, so if the majority of the fanbase consider it "mickey mouse", then it will be mickey mouse.

Single Elim screws new teams and teams who happen to play against tournament finalists early. Double Elim is far more arduous and forced teams to prove their meddle (no flukes).

BO1s are also poor indicators of a team’s fortitude and map pool across a series. It’s like arguing you can have players compete over tactics puzzles for the opening match of a classical chess tournament because it’s not for elimination.

Do you genuinely think that the best team itw rn is TH and not PRX based on the last major “international?”

No man , this gf just proved G2 are still good man, geng had won the second masters and their matches began like one week after winning it, they had 0 rest time and even after pacific they only had like 9-10 days to prepare for champs so obviously they very burnout and tired and also had their strat book running thin, G2 hasn't gone through any of this
