Split 1 format is bad

For both viewers and orgs

For viewers

  • If your favorite team(for ex: Zeta) has a bad start or doesn't have a chance to qualify for the tournament you only get to watch them for only 2(or 3) matches and then have to wait for 2-3 months again.
  • We can't witness certain match ups if one of the team gets eliminated in their respective groups.
  • Since the stakes are high, teams won't experiment new comps and by the time masters start we might get mirror match up in most of the maps.
  • Finally why do we have so little matches after 6 month off season.

For orgs
3 teams are guranteed to get eliminated after playing 2 matches. With this little data it is quite difficult to understand what is the problem with the team .Also they will never get a chance to adapt to a meta because by the time they play next split the meta might have changed.

It’s because it’s a tournament, not a split. The two splits later this year are going to be an actual regular season.
Imo this format is completely fine

Probably not, for a regular round robin format like last year it took 2 months to complete it. Given we have Champs in August which is 4 months after masters 1. I highly doubt that would be the case given we have masters 2 in June.

They might do more games per week to get the round robin done, but I think for the 2 league splits they’ll have a longer format

That’s a sick format, kinda like the 2022 one

Leo faria is so fucking stupid. Thats crazy. they could hire a 12 year old and he would make a better format. „We dont have time to do a full round robin“ but then they make the season end in september again ????

Yeah they do that. Idk why, I mean I watch both but I don’t think there’s that much overlap between valorant and league viewers

Leo Faria confirmed that each team will only play 5 matches per split… so when he said 10 matches in his tweet he meant total for the year. After 6 months of off season we now have less games to watch than last year. There is a limit to how much Riot can fuck up

wdym less games to watch than last yr? we had 1 split last yr...amount of matches will still be the same at the end of both splits

But that 2 doesn't matter because each team is only playing 5 games. Why do we even have a kickoff tournament? Just start playing the splits with 10 games.

so spilt 1 -> masters1 ->split2 -> masters2? then what? split 3? then champs?

Yup. This. Choose winners are top point teams for the champs

It’s not a split. Take it as if instead of the Lock in last year, this year we have masters Madrid, instead of all 30 teams, it’s only 8 teams, but teams have to qualify through kick off.

Basically Kickoff + Madrid = Last years Lock in

We’ll then have 2 splits, another masters and champs
That being said the format is indeed weird, but the with Riot making 11 team tournaments is not easy

So what format will the 2 splits after Madrid have?
Round robin took 2 months last year and having 4 months gap between madrid and Champs make it highly unlikely format .

A round robin across the 2 IL stages, so each team will play 5/6 games per stages (if they dont qual to playoff)

4 games per stages if you are in the group of 5, so if you are bad and unlucky you will do 2 game in the Lockin, 4 games in split 1, and 4 game in split 2. so a total of 10 Bo in the year. For a comparison, in master Copenhagen 2022, FPX made 9 BO.

Format is weird because an 11 team league is complicated. But it's not really a matter of dates because Lock in last year ended early March while Masters Madrid this year ends mid March. So the difference is not very big

Also important to notice that, next season will start at the end of 2024 instead of 2025 to be able to space things out more in the future

man the format sucks, so much will be based on what group you get drafted into it's insane and just unfair
they should've just kept LCQ and gave us one big 10 game league before the second masters event, something like 5 games, one a week, for each team then a break for a week or two and then another 5 games
