There were probably going to be a couple Russian based orgs like Gambit that would’ve hopefully made franchising but Putin fucked that up. (It hurts to imagine what franchising would’ve been with gambit in it)

I wouldn’t be surprised if KOI or Giantx only made it in cause the war happened

KOI was the most certain of them all. Either TH or Giants would be the ones out

Tbf since that was announced all 3 of KOI TH and Giants have become LEC teams with very decent fan bases and solid structures (not koi). We don’t know the circumstances but no Russian orgs is what allowed it. Idk what happened with BIG, but clearly they didn’t like something about them internally, and it must had been big because they knew the whole thing was gonna be in Berlin

Its one of the bigger fumbles in the long run imo just because it will end up stifling growth in one of EMEAs most profitable regions, but from my understanding diversity in regions was not really a consideration.
And if you then just look at the fanbases in Valo all of the EMEA teams have a bigger following.
Its a shame but its not like it actually changes much - a german team wouldnt have been able to compete at international levels so BIG would have been a mixed roster with max 2 german players anyways and at that point its just as easy to cheer for any other team

Big is collecting that VCT money by sharing and renting their offices.

I don't think region representation was a that big of a factor for EMEA compared to other regions due to the fact that Esports in Europe have always been more internationalized and it's actually quite rare for a team to only have players from their own region/country only the only exception in this case would be the teams from Turkey, which historically have been its own separate region in most games, so they'll probably at least for a good time from now continue to have Turkish player's only rosters.
