The differences between pros and non-pros?

As we all know, we are probably familiar with a few big streamer names that regularly put themselves at the top of the ranked leaderboard but somehow fail miserably in an actual VCT match, even against a Tier 5 team. This leads us to a few questions:

  • What are the differences between pros and your typical ranked "Andy"?
  • What qualities do you think distinguish pros from these players?
  • What is the thing that keeps these top-ranked players from becoming pros?

Aside from the typical rhetorical answers about dedication and other things, what do you think would be more fitting answers? Share your ideas.

in pro matches they play for more map control then just rushing a site. also teams have more coordination together and use util through combinations

ranked is just aim while pro matches is actually using brain + aim + planning. But both require good mentality(if you grind rank constantly)

im from apac but in this case, apac are from top 2 teams while the na team is tier 1..

so i think its safe to say that players quality are on top besides aim strats etc

  • Team comms
  • Better trades
  • Less throws
  • Capitalizing on opponent's mistakes
  • Strong mental - Decision and risks in game is more than just losing RR in pro play
  • Good understanding of opponent teams for anti-strat

Yours Sincerely,
Unrated Valorant Player

I wouldnt really know as im not radiant yet but maybe the depth of agents and their utilities

For example Leo knows something that many of us dont know (How to use dart in certain situations optimally etc)

Another example Marved is a world class controller and just has all the lurk timings etc down which a "just ranked player" wouldnt have

I feel much more in-depth map knowledge (rotation timings, utility timings like re-smoking, molly timings and counter utility usage). Vod reviews, and quicker learning from mistakes looking at vods, and probably better decision making on when to take control and when to let go. All that along with the ability to shoot back. These are the things I personally lack when compared to pro which I can see, being a average flex diamond 2/3 player. There must be dozen more but I cannot tell.

  1. More creative util usage
Many ranked players fall into patterns that work well for them. Pros have to be able to break those patterns

  2. Better teamplay
You can flash for a teammate in ranked for example, but pros combine things on the fly that work way better

  3. Better read of the game
    Obv

  4. DISCIPLINE
They will play for higher win %s and (not always ofc) tend to only go for favorable fights when they can. Won’t be chasing down people if they don’t need to

  5. Playing vs other pros
This is a bit of a circular thing, but pros playing ranked vs pros playing other pros is a big difference. All the util and set plays are designed to be as disruptive as possible. It takes a lot of knowledge of how to play against that rather than against the same comp in ranked. Map control really works differently in the pro scene

Pros have brain and behaviour, ranked demon have 0 behavior and brain.

Better com, teamplay, more consistent aim, better individual decision making, better understanding of agent util and when to take advantage, better mental.

The largest difference between ranked/pug play and official competition is the existence of elaborate teamplay.

There's a big difference in being able to get a 3k as a site anchor in ranked and against a Skye flash + sova scan + double satchel exec - being able to deal with that is the most important mechanically-related skill in professional play.

I’m Immortal and played with one of the NATemp accounts. I think it was someone from Giants. Honestly he didn’t seem that much better than me. In fact he played a post plant situation completely wrong. He still dropped 30 kills, but in terms of game sense, it was lacking a bit.
