But so I imagine almost everyone in Tier 1! I mean they do it for a living in an increasingly more competitive environment.

then they work harder than everyone.

you have no clue what talent looks like.

"hard work can't never beat talent, it can only equal it". -me

It's definitely tough to extricate this supposed talent from the result because, well, you only see the result -- but there still definitely that natural factor.

Hard work beats talent, if talent fails to work hard.

It's also not just the "hardness" of the work that matters but also the quality of the type of work, and a lot of external and internal factors. I think FNC is one of the best orgs when it comes to providing players with everything they need, including diet, performance coaches, and so much more. There's a lot of factors at play behind the scenes that we can't really see.

It's definitely not just "they work harder".

Oh, I definitely agree on that. For instance, pros in general have a more efficient way of practicing and thus would stand to yield more from the equal amount of hours compared to your casual average joe. There are too many factors and I am glad you included the support system which had escaped my mind at the time.

What do you think about natural talent? Do you think some people can process info better and juggle more variables?

The most naturally talented is Something, the most hardworking is Boaster

I don't know about that. It's probably some pro we've never heard. We don't know the routine of Something, how hard he trains, and that can give the impression that he is just naturally talented when his results are just the tip of the iceberg buttressed by insane work ethics and discipline and a reasonably large spade of talent surely.

Didn't he started competing 2 months ago?

Ah yes, but he's 21 years old, isn't he?. 19 Leo. 18 Alfajer. You can make arguments from all side. If Leo was just hired in the right circumstances 2 months before some team got to play internationally he would also perform the same and you would likely be left impressed in the same way too.

Both just naturally great at the game imo.

It's a mix of talent, hard work, and fortune of circumstance. That's always the case. Hard work outshines lazy talent, lack of circumstance kills both, lack of talent often can't be overcome by hard work. Need a balance of the first two and the third in order to be world class at anything.

Good point. I also see it as a perfect storm of myriad factors.

I think a little of both. The biggest advantage of alfajer is that it has an IGL like a booster. At the same time, he tries his best whatever Booster says.

me thinks alfajer is a natural, but leo, on the other hand definitely the hardest worker in the room, his discipline bursting out of his charm and it reflected in his gameplay

The hardest worker is boaster by far.
Boaster has to make all the strats, aim train, vod review any interesting game he can find to find ideas, work with mini on whats decent and whats not, relay it all back to the team and teach them AND find lineups for his teammates in their own res, since theyre different from his own.

No one on that team works harder than boaster. Yes hes not the best igl, not the best aimer, not the best at many things but when it comes to working hard lets not say bullshit lol

i might be too narrowed for only pointing out leo since the post is about him and alfa, but if we r talking fnc as a whole yes i fully agree its definitely boaster

honestly for me, he is the best IGL. It took him winning tokyo for me admit that, he works hella hard on strats and is a good emotional leader as well.

True, I guess you can always work harder but you can't become more talented lol and which is what separates super diligent players.

both they work hard and have talent for the game. Even within tier 1 teams and players, some do not work as hard as others.

in competitive talent without hard work means nothing
talent without hard work can be capable in music for example or text writing

to be the best, you need both hardwork and talent

#32

A mix of both
Leo was already insane even when he was a nobody playing with bonkars early team. He was just a kid and he stood up even then. He was a beast at GUILD, starting competive prep with an official team. And he is a beast at Fnatic, even with more prep.

Same for Alfajer

talent just let's you become better way faster than others but you can also hit your peak really fast with your talent. then comes hard work in clutch, repetition builds your muscle memory while performing at your best. your intuition is getting sharper, we call this game sense right. hard work is always needed, for some people it starts right away and for some after they hit their peak. putting time in smth rewards you the most. at the end of the day everyone is somewhat capable but you gotta have champion mindset. these guys know they are one of the best when they enter server, you can't make them doubt themselves. it's how games are won, on lan or ranked, doesn't matter.

Definitely. World-class ethics is a must and a necessary factor. The other factors come later. The quality of work, professional support system, diet, etc.

both, you can't get to the top without both
