Streamers are not peak intelligence. Don't take 2 people and use it to describe half a billion people. You look really dumb.

But yes, most of them are 'dumb' educationally.

Tbh a lot of american geography/history courses don't focus at all on global topics. I had to take a separate class altogether just to learn history from a non-american viewpoint. Pretty damaging way to learn imo

good point, it's kinda strange to figure out since states are mostly a NA thing and we tend to talk about a country's culture, not a state's culture. In my country at least, what we learn in geography class is pretty much abstract if we want to learn more we have to study by ourselves.

US States are comparable in size, population, and GDP to european countries. The US itself is bigger than the entire EU in land area (and similar, but smaller, in population). There's no reason for most Americans to know the smaller countries of europe just like there's no reason for most Europeans to know the smaller and less populated states of the US.

no... they actually don't... US mostly learns about US geography and history... that's how it is... they barely learn about foreigners in schools. that's why the us educational system is just... special. staring down at uni taxes in the us Most of them are less likely to leave US in their lifetime, and there's a lot of states with different rules and stuff, so in a way it's just "normal" to learn just about their entire country... they're not the "smartest" either so just knowing about their country in the first place should be enough....

no. because just like US people will learn about their states, every country learns about their regions - internal level... external level, in this topic, USA is a "country" just like any other country in the world... and just like most europeans know that US is a country and where it's located, so could people in the US learn that a country exists and where. the most basic level: it exists and it's located there. Asking foreigners to name US states is like asking US ppl to name every land in Germany.

There are 50 European countries and you expect every American/Canadian to know their name, location, and flag? You can't even name 10 states in the United States. That's your ignorance about "haha Americans don't know Europe". America has an area of 10 million meters squared. Europe has just under 4 million meters squared. We have a lot of area to cover. Many Americans/Canadians never leave their country because it's so big and they don't ever care to travel overseas. In most European countries you can travel 1 hour and be in another country. Why should North Americans care about every single country in Europe? I've lived in Europe, and you guys talk about America way too much, yet are actually oblivious about North America.

My country for instance has 41 regions with their own councils and shit... US is just big so their states got some rules of their own, but that doesn't make them equal to a country. Nobodies arguing that a state is equal to a country. The original post was about NA education and how they don't know European country flags. I said there's 50 countries in Europe while only being around 5% bigger and the U.S has 50 states. Of course Americans aren't going to know a bunch of European contra flags when there's so many of them and they're across the world from us. I never once said that states are the same as a country. My point was in this argument they are generally equivalent, again in this argument. I'm not talking about power or rules or government in a state being the same as a country.

Why be so ignorant? You act like Americans are supposed to know every country and its flag in Europe (50 countries), while you guys can't name 10 states that are more populated than European countries. It's just silly to expect Americans who will never travel to these locations to know this. Hell, North America consists of 23 countries and you can't name all of them and their flags. You guys know America, Canada, Mexico and maybe 4-5 more off the top of your head. You're way too cocky for being blatantly rude.

I'm not talking about power or rules or government in a state being the same as a country.

it wasn't just about country flags, but also about the existence of those countries/location. there's plenty of vods with streamers saying "is that a country?" and turns out to be a big country in the EU, even with shroud iirc. The point is that the least everyone in the world can do is to know that a country exists and it's location, generally speaking, where education is easily accessible. or some vid with some player of an NA team that didn't know where iceland was. 11th grade in our highschools is just goegraphy of the world. we literally have tests where we get country names or capital city names and get to write the correct capital city or country. if most of us can learn 195 countries with their capital city, and remember bigger ones, pretty sure we wouldn't struggle with 50 states. And on 12th grade is just my country... where I have to learn indeed every region and their "capital city"

They know nothing outside usa.

I'm actually curious why you are attacking USA. I guarantee a majority of people from Europe can't name all South American countries and know their flags. Additionally, they can't actually name all North American countries and know them by their flags. They probably only know Canada, USA, Mexico, and at most 3-4 more.

lol @ NA ITT saying stuff like "Can you name our 50 states?" "Would you know the flag of california?"

If you don't even recognize the flags of other countries, then I have no doubt that you also don't know the names of the states in those countries, much less the flags of those states...

Name all 23 North American countries is what they could say and list their flags, but none of you would get that.

I agree, I find it crazy that people don't know basic geography as well. But some people are stronger in different aspects of education. Plus most of geography is just memorization which some people struggle with. And I will admit soooo many Americans just think America is the best and they don't even think about other countries which is just blind national pride

This thread was built because someone from NA didn't know a flag, yet NA gets bashed for not knowing 50 flags. You can't even remember 23 flags. Additionally, you're just lying if you say you know all 23 country names. Why act so confident instead of owning up to not knowing information? I'm American, but lived in the Netherlands for a few core years of my life, where I learned geography of some European countries, not too in depth, nothing about America or the rest of the world. Connected with a few of my friends there, they said still no real geography classes (is a private school btw since my parents could afford, public school in the US).
In the United States, IDK if I missed it or something, but I've had multiple world history classes and no geography classes or lessons, just 1 random quiz on states in the 6th grade. The only reason I know so much about the countries and flags is the World Cup. I literally know more about Europe than North America in terms of geography because of it.
I think neither EU or NA does a good job at teaching this stuff, but in general, most Americans won't travel to Europe and don't need to know about every country and flag to stay educated, and tbh most don't care. On the other hand, Europeans don't really need to know states or anything like that cuz they're not going to be travelling to every one of them.

California, Florida, New York, Alabama, Texas, Illinois, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Washington, Virginia, Arizona etc are all very known in Europe as well...
