Was Faze vs Navi BO5 banger final in IEM Kato too? Because I remember that shit got 1.2M viewers, weird downfall because navi usually pulls a lot

Because CS tournaments occur so often that fans get tired of watching everything.

In Valorant there's 6 months break without anything, obviously extremely rare Valorant tournaments will collect more viewers than Katowice.

Cope with 3 international events per year and all with shitty formats

Idk it’s weird. CSGO just reached an all-time concurrent player peak but Kato is getting lower viewers. I think it will probably hit like 700-800k for the finals but idk why no one’s watching while so many people are playing.

Lock//in is gonna get a lot of viewers because of the artificial boost that comes with a long break from valorant tournaments, maybe 1.2 mil

when did I say its a major ?? I was confused as to why the viewership is down from last year. also lock//In isn't a major either

#14

Lockin is not a Major, Masters are not Majors. So?

#27
capital_d_colon

there are literally 3 international vct valorant events each year
there are 2 csgo majors each year.

I think you can safely compare lock-in and a major

#30

A Champions is a Major, winning a masters or lock in doesn't make you world champion. Winning a Major or a Champion does

#44

i mean thats valid if you are viewing it as the prestige.
but in terms of frequency they are similar.
and in terms of both events having in game items for celebration/fundraising

#47
Mortadelo

I mean yeah, I'm talking about prestige and numbers. If we're talking about other stuff is different, I don't really think winning a Champions is harder than winning a Masters, it's the best teams at the moment giving their 100% after all, but it's just not the same, and there will never be as many people watching a IEM or a Masters as there is a Champions or a Major.

Saying Lock In is a Major is like saying MSI in LOL is a Major for example

#51

I dont think lock-in and MSI are comparable.

Lock-in is such a unique event.
Its really a launch party of the new age of valorant esports.
New rosters, teams with huge fanbases which dont normally reach these huge events.

Msi on the otherhand is a very disliked repetitive mini event featuring a small slice of teams.
I think an MSI is more equitable to a masters event.

lock-in ≠ a masters event imo

I think its fair to compare a major and a Lock-in though I expect lock-in to blow rio out of the water in terms of numbers.

#52
Mortadelo

Frags

I mean Lock in is definitely something special and I wouldn't really compare it to anything since is not happening ever again. But yes MSI is like a Masters and that's why I mean they're not majors

#57

Thinking about it more its kinda impossible to cross-compare csgo events and valorant events due to how different each circuit is.
csgo having the "peak event" twice a year makes any comparison kinda pointless

#58

fair enough

#45

bro a masters could literally be a major it was only 3 big events last year for valorant lmao that's why it's called "major" i dont feel like there's a real difference between masters and champions

#50
Mortadelo

Then according to that logic is a LOL MSI the equivalent of a Major too?

#53
inkie

Frags

no, because you can really tell the difference in production, stage, teams preparation, etc. Asian teams dont take that tournament that serious compared to worlds.

#11
Skyss

More tournaments = boring and its happened in CSGO, LoL regional league and franchise except LEC and VCL
why Worlds series always got new record every year? cause we only watch huge tournaments and big teams played

#13

cs peak viewership last year was 2.1 mil which is 600k lower than 2021 where they hit 2.7 mil. this year kato wice has even lesser viewers than last year what's your reasoning for this?

if your esports resort to 3-4 teams getting viewerships that's very bad signs . If brazilian team lose early rip viewership , if faze navi or g2 out rip viewership.

#42

valorant gets more viewership because they are giving visibility to other regions than europe america and brazil, i mean obviously why would asians, brazilians, americans watch cs when they are only getting rolled out by eu and cis that's why they went to valorant and even with that cs is fighting in viewership

#49
Ullyr

Its dead cause valve does shit to grow the game in other regions. No one wants to invest in CS when literally there's no incentives. At one point there was interests for asian region. With no org growth the scene dies and you won't see players competiting lol. Its gonna get worse for CS now unless valve actually does something other than selling skins.

#55
inkie

no one wants to invest in CS in minor regions because it's too late for that, you cant just irrupt in a game dominated by a region in the last decade and pretend to start winning trophies. Like in LOL you cant just come with a lot of money to europe or na and pretend to win worlds when you are going to get rekt by asians

They are. But there are too many events. If Valorant had as many events as CS (it doesn't, not even close), Valo views would be times worse.

It’s almost like Riot knows this and keeps investors happy with LAN League, & minimal major tournaments.

How does having minimal major tournaments keeps investors happy?
And by the way Riot are literally paying stipends to participating teams, it's not like they even make net profit.

NFL, NBA, MLB… I mean… Riot is obviously modeling there franchise leagues on a working system. Granted esports itself is a niche market they still have billion dollar investors.

Ad revenue, cosmetic sales etc. I shouldn’t have to explain this tbh
