is it true that swedish people won't feed you when you visit them on their houses?
like, they go eat and tell you to wait until they're done?

Its not weird when you expect that people have eaten their own food/parents have fed their own children. I don't know how this works in some parts of the world, but you don't expect people to come to your house hungry. Unless they are specifically invited for dinner. Depends on family tho. And every place I've been to you get something to eat if you ask. And that is the difference maker. In some countries where people are more open and "friendly" and food culture is different they will ask you to eat and its common gesture like in Southern Europe if I'm not wrong, but here in Nordics where our culture is different you don't always ask do they want to eat but instead you expect them to ask if they can and that can lead to that both parties being too embarrassed to ask and that usually leads to no. Again really depended on family and saying this since our culture is similar to Swedes.

it is weird if you have and dont offer a quest food if you are already eating,if no ones eating and the quest just asks if we can eat then thats normal

Not really in my experience. When I was younger and when I had friends over I and my parents would always ask if my friend wanted to eat as well (we never really had proper dinners at that time tho but mainly snack and such). And when it came to my friends some of their families would always ask if I wanted to eat while some families didn't and had the basic "wait here I will go eat fast". And even to this day in my experience it depends on people and the purpose of your visit. Invited for coffee, dinner etc = offer food, you just go there in random time for no reason = don't often offer food because they didnt prepare. Just my experience.

Being there at dinner time doesn’t mean he shows up at that time so you give him food, maybe spent there whole day doing something or just hanging out

I was mainly talking about the times when I was younger and would just visit some friends after school and usually that went until lunch or common dinner time that is like 4-5 PM. And at that point they have their own routines, so they aren't just going to wait until I leave.
But I haven't experience that after. Usually people plan their visits so people can eat dinner in peace. Outside of some more random visits with quick notice. Then its different story and I will offer food to guests myself but some don't.

Its not about refusing its more about asking. I have never met anyone who would refuse to feed guests. Its just that some don't ask and its not that expected thing.

On what source is this based on? I could literally make a map in photoshop and label it anything. Y'all be believin in too much bullshit you see online. 💀

Also, there are some customs and norms in every country. Even IF this close to being true then it would be normal all across the country, no? But I doubt this is true cuz we don't know what it's like there

Never happened when I’ve been there. To be fair I’ve only been there to see family and I’ve never heard of them doing anything close to that, it doesn’t sound like something that Swedish people would do.

I strongly doubt it, especially since the country is so open to immigration

#41

some people on the twitter thread tried to explain it had something to do with some protestant christian customs about diner and caring about own family most idk

Uh, I don't think it's that weird. Unless you are inviting people over for dinner, lunch, or an event like sports watch parties you would assume they have already eaten. But I do offer just in case.
