The main issue is her trips, compared to her counterparts (chamber/kj/cypher) the trips are way worse in holding map control.
Plus they are prone to contact plays.

Give her trips a small activation range.
When you are inside that range it can detect player movement.
When you are outside it returns to only detecting audio.

Personally I am really excited for Vitality.
Great mix of current talent and upcoming talent, sayf is a huge pickup and seems to be a pivotal piece in the team.
The Vitality coaching staff is also very under-appreciated, big fan of Salah in particular.

Liquid I have high hopes for.
As an apeks enjoyer, mistic/enzo/keiko were great to watch play and watch how they blossomed into top players.
They should be a stable contender in emea pushing into a international contender.
My only concern is the coaching setup, this year is make or break for me, we need to see a well structured and organised team on both defense and attack.

I am not as high as some people are on KC.
Despite me being a big Tomaszy fan, there is so many moving pieces and questions to be asked about the roster.
The gap between the ceiling and floor of this roster is probably the largest we have seen in emea.

Overall, I am really happy with the majority of roster moves.
Most of the teams have made clear improvements, if that is talent wise or cohesion wise.

This year there wasn't as many high performing controller players compared to previous years.
The star controller players in 2022 were on lower performing teams, with a few of them failing to even make champs.

With the top teams:
a) Having their igl on the role (fnatic with boaster)
b) The controller player changing based on maps. (eg in 2023)
c) A low individual performance from their controller.

So who do you think was the best controller player of 2023?

Me personally, I think it's between s0m/mako/mindfreak.

What is wrong with gunba?

Led the mayhem to their first OWL title in history.
Won another event (PRO-AM)
Placed top 3 in every single qualifier or event they played.
86% series winrate this year (30/35 games)

picking either gunba/potter/zonic/homme is pretty valid

At what point is faker just winning it because of who he is though?

  • Wasn't the best player on his team in lck split 1 (which they didn't even win)
  • Gumayusi was better an msi. There were a couple of other mid laners better than faker (t1 placed 3rd)
  • He was injured for half of lck 2.
  • It is only now at the worlds playoffs that T1 has become the top team in Korea and potentially the world.

Worlds is probably the only event this year that you could debatable call faker the best mid laner.

I understand that, considering how big LoL actually is.

But what imperial-hal achieved this year was absurd.

1st at apex 2023 championship (valorant terms = champs)
2nd at split 2 (like a masters event)
1st at split 1 (like a masters event)

Plus he mvp'd in both of their wins.
Phenomenal achievements and incredible individual performances.

Nominations:

  1. Esport Athlete of the year: demon1 (val) , faker (lol) , hydra (cod), imperial-hal (apex) , ruler (lol), zywoo (cs2/csgo)

  2. Esport team: EG (VAL) , FNC (VAL), GG (DOTA2), JDG (LOL) , VITALITY (CSGO)

  3. Esport Game: CS2 , DOTA2, LoL, PUBGM, VALORANT

  4. Esport Event: 2023 Worlds (lol) , Blast cs major , EVO 2023 (fighting games), TI 2023 (dota 2), Champs 2023 (valorant)

  5. Esport Coach: Potter (eg val) , Zonic (vit/fal csgo), gunba (florida ow) , xtqzzz (vit csgo) , HOMME (jdg lol)

Who should win? (in my opinion)

  1. Imperial-hal
  2. JDG
  3. LoL
  4. Blast CS major
  5. Gunba

side note: there is actually no valid reason as to why xtqzzz was nominated, he hardly coached this year (he even admits to it)

I really hate the constant "clashing" of communities, it's cringe it's petty and it's repetitive.

But in reality it's free views, people will either hate watch or watch for the intent of hating on the other game.

At the end of the day it's subjective.
It's almost impossible to quantify who the best valorant player is due to how multifaceted the game is.

There may be times where the majority of people agree on one player being the best but it's still just opinions.

posted about a year ago

When I think of "The best player of the year," I normally consider multiple different factors.

Statistical angles.
Although, there's always a debate about which metrics are more important to factor.
Impact can often be reflected by using different metrics, like you were saying with clutches or multi kills.
Some other things, like consistency and big-game performances, are also important to consider.

Achievement.
Winning events and being on a competitive team is also important.
Something people often forget to consider is that making deep runs in an event normally negatively affects your stats, due to the fact you would be facing the best teams.

It's hard to separate the "best player" from the "most impactful" due to how intertwined they are.

posted about a year ago

It's all subjective and it changes depending on what you value more in a player.
Obviously this is all within reason, saying Leo wasn't a top player would be taking things too far.

FNS thinks Leo was the best player this year because he values his consistency and his smart decisions making.
https://youtu.be/mAVUhur1YVY?si=2U085fpHUHr833y-&t=298

Boostio thought process is more on the lines that he thinks there are other players who can dictate and impact games more, which is valid.

Stats are a good way to tell if a player is good.

Watching players helps you understand why they are good.

I think Saadhak will create a system which works well with qck however I still think the roster will be weaker than if aspas was still playing.

2024 might actually be better year for the team due to the fact that tuyz and cauanzin have gained T1 experience.
Just compare cauanzin from Lock//in to Champs... he has grown into a top player.

posted about a year ago

I mean I don't think you need to be radiant to understand some of the more macro / setups decisions in the game.

Micro mechanics (like aim) would be the most impactful skill to improve to help climb the ranks.

And still the difference between macro in rank and pro play is staggering.
Obviously playing the game more and at a higher level is good for your understanding but it is not indicative of a players knowledge.

My top 10 consists only of players from FNC/EG/PRX/LOUD mainly for the reasons that they were the only teams to have a multiple top 3 placements in VCT 2023.

Some players like something/cauanzin had their strongest performances in champs, when you reflect on their entire year you may not think of them as highly.
Chronicle would be the opposite, as he had a mild performance at champs compared to his form in the rest of the year.

This is what i thought my top 20 would look like:
https://www.vlr.gg/268780/top-20-players-of-this-year

I might change a few things but the top 10 wouldn't change much.

posted about a year ago

Everyone on that list were players from the top 4 teams at champs.
This is quite a small sample size of games. winning playoff games is very closely related to having a good rating.

It is also the case that those 4 teams were the top 4 teams of the year (with those 4 teams being the only ones to make a grand finals).

posted about a year ago

Nah they deserved champs, they fixed their issues from Tokyo and still improved on areas they were already strong in.

My hot take is that teams showed EG way too much respect at Tokyo during the map vetos, the snowball effect of this respect allowed EG to become the strong team they were at champs.

posted about a year ago

I still think it's too early.
I can see a Chinese team breaking into the top 4 but making a grand final is still unlikely.

Will be very interesting to see where he goes.

That is not his role on the team?

As an initiator he has a strong kit which allows him to set up other players or gain information.

Let's use Leo most common role of scan initiator as an example.

Consider the attack side, what benefit would there be for a sova to take first contact? Compared to a Duelist which can create space and break angles.

He is a pack player for the team, most initiators util gain more value when there is someone to capitalise on the space created.

You would want the guy who can provide a huge amount of map information to be alive as long as possible.

His form has really stepped up since joining z10.
will be interesting if he can keep this up going forward.

He's half Indonesian.
He was previously representing Australia.
I guess it's just his preference.

Fnatic were correct in dropping mistic/enzo considering chronicle/leo were available but Mistic and Enzo are not the same players they once were.

Mistic's performances in fnatic were dampened by the fact he had to swap into a flex role to accommodate boaster.
He looks far more comfortable/stronger on a pure controller role.

Enzo, well he has become a leader and a IGL for the team.
Good igl's are a rarity in valorant but Enzo has shown to possess the qualities a top igl needs.

Scream & Nivera would likely only come as a duo.
Judging by what was happening with KC I don't think teams would want a repeat of that.
