Trophies isn't how you measure a 'Tier 1' team if something like that even exists , Prx was the best SEA team for majority of it that doesn't mean they were tier 1 nd rest of SEA was tier 2. Franchised teams directly get invited to masters qualifier regional tournament like current VCT stage 1/2 while rest of the teams play open qualifiers for their slots to join the 6 franchised teams. franchised teams can play 3rd party tournaments when others are playing qualifiers to get match practice and then play in masters qualifiers officially. No tier 1 no tier 2 open qualifiers region by region culminating in LAN qualifiers for top 16 teams or something if possible and needed like in Asia and then a rotating LAN Stage1/2 regional qualifier for masters and masters and champions remain same

As for this split 2 just double knockout format but top 3 will play on LAN which is weird wording I am assuming it means lower final nd grand finals will be a 2 day bo5 LAN in some city

people here pick niche reasons but actually VCT franchising is boring by structure , nobody wants to see Sen vs 100T 5 times a year with rigged brackets and same result and nobody wants to see same 4-5 teams qualify every year, same teams suck every year and obviously a group stage while great for competition isnt as exciting and high stakes as double elimination knockout formats of past where every match was unskippable . The first year was carried by familiarity and hype for new franchise system but this is will only keep going down as dust settles . The complete division and disconnect with tier 2 also alienates the fanbase of regions which dont have representation in Tier 1 and completely render most tier 2 matches no stake involved.

we don't need tier 2 exclusive 3rd party tourney as that would be useless but what we do need other than open franchising is Tier 1+ TIER 2 tournament that mean something let's say a huge prize money like EWC. I am of the opinion that EWC qualifiers being closed to VCT teams only is an abysmal decision whoever took it whether out of fear of VCT system facing embarrassment if Tier 2 team wins it all or because they believed a tier 2 team won't bring eyeballs. The money would have been life changing for smaller orgs and free agent teams and would have made EWC mean something instead of being a cheap copy of masters vct.
And EWC does allow tier 2 teams to compete in other games so it was nothing unprecedented that would have happened in case of valorant .
