fuck gamefreak for ruining the franchise I love. Capcom is cooking with resident evil, just sticking with the formula that works for them. And their game never gets old because they are the only one doing it. I love Resident Evil and glad capcom is not fucking it up, unlike gamefreak fucking trying to merge with the current generation, trying to make an open world game like everyone else. Swords and Shield without the open world and gimmick is perfect. Legends Arceus is amazing but it’s spin off, and they should only make open world for spin off games. Will I keep buying the new games? yes because I’m a stupid fanboi. Do I love gamefreak? NO FUCK THEM! BUT KEEP MY MONEY ANYWAY BECAUSE I’M A STUPID FUCK!

Resident Evil went through a phase where people hated the changes they made, especially RE6 before striking gold with 7 and spiking a resurgence for the series and the company; you have to take risks in trying new things otherwise you’ll be stuck in the pixel 2d era if gamefreak caved in like this and wouldn’t even have seen sword and shield. They already listened to the public on BDSP remakes and delayed the game 5 remakes indefinitely.

The main thing holding them back is their short dev times initially which worked in the pixel era but they clearly underestimated the effort needed for 3D games in the transition between gen 5 to 6 and that short dev cycle persisted till SV (think this is the longest gap now between the current and a newer generation in Wind and Waves, so hopefully they learned their lesson)

The difference is capcom listened to their fans. They didn’t stick with RE6 formula despite it being their most sold game. They listened to criticism and started making good games again after that. Meanwhile gamefreak will stick with this same open world formula because it’s making them money anyways. They don’t care about the fans because they will buy the game anyway. They will conntinue releasing incomplete and laggy games

That’s more of a problem of their dev times which hopefully they addressed given how big the time gap is from SV till Wind and Waves release (longest we’ve ever gone without a new gen release). Before they were releasing mainline games every 1-2 years which clearly wasn’t sustainable while they kept trying to adapt new tech.

Same, but I can’t lie I still enjoyed Swords and Shield, it’s a beautiful game imo. But I agree it has never been the same since the franchise switched to switch (hah)

i genuinely wish they never switched to open world, i dont mind it for legends games but the main series shouldve stuck with routes

i played sword like 6 years after release and i genuinely enjoyed it
i cant get myself to play violet, and it is not because of the bugs

routes are just more fun to explore than an open world for me

Same. I hate how most games these days are open world. I genuinely can’t remember a single city from Gen 9. I enjoy exploring the routes more. Idc if they are too linear that’s why I fell in love with pokemon, not because of unmemorable places

That’s fair, everything seems to be one baked instance rather than several set pieces with connectors.

I feel like there are 3 really big problems with GameFreak, first is they don't have the expertise to make an open world game in the time Nintendo is forcing them to put out games, second they don't really understand how open world games work, like the fact that the gyms and wild pokemon don't scale with and the world is so empty is such bad design, and then the final problem is they listen to fans opinion way too much, like Gen 5 was great but because of fans complaining because of stupid reasons GameFreak went away from the stuff that made Gen 5 good.

I fucking hate them too, but I play competitively so I unfortunately am forced to own every game-
