If they drop egg how tf are they allowed to do that? They've lost already 3 members of the roster that gave them the spot. I really think rito needs to allow underage players somehow or they need to prevent orgs from dropping 3 players from any asc team. Once this open qual happens what even happens to the underage players playing in T2?

Doesn't matter - he won ascension. If it was a team that didnt win the right to compete in T1 I would agree he should get the boot.

but if they dotn win now, they cant stay in tier 1, they gotta do what they gotta do... altho i hope eggster bounces back, in his interview after the game he said he was actually clueless

They are allowed to do that for the the same reason that BBL is allowed to poach the entire PCF roster. Also its unfair to allow every team but ascension teams to change their roster freely and forcing ascension teams to play with a core especially if that core underperform.

Thats.. the point of ascension.

Why would anyone grind to reach T1 - give an org an opportunity into the scene and then get kicked because you underperformed. This isnt like a org gives an opportunity to the players to compete its the other way around and the players allow orgs to be represented.

So are orgs just supposed to keep players who underperform no matter how bad they do? That's unfair to the org who's whole goal is trying to get to internationals and competing. You can't just expect an org who is playing the players on their roster thousands of dollars and supporting them in a bunch of ways like giving them a place to live to pay a player who isn't doing his job. If you work at a company and are underperforming you are going to be fired, its the same thing in esports.

Yes, thats the point of ascension. For the teams to get to compete in the T1 space.

You have to remember the teams are also getting exposure, watch time, the audience from the players (which are high after winning asc), they get revenue from riot for their capsules, and event skins.

I think a better way to run something like this is to have a severance cut. Im strictly referring to orgs that buy out a roster that wins a tourney not one that already salaries a team and then wins

Most pro contracts do have a severance cut though, its why you often see players benched instead of dropped because a benched player they can pay a reduced salary while in most cases if they want to drop a player they have fully pay out their contract or find another org to buy out their contract. And while there are a few cases where this isn't the case, for the most case this is how it works.

this is precisely why vct is changing the system for champs...
the idea of keeping ascension teams will remain, but challenger teams can play in champs after defeating so-called t1 teams.

Yeah it seems ridiculous- no other esport is this crazy

  • visa issues
  • age restrictions
  • lack of sponsors
  • production issues

Almost exclusively centered around all of riots rules .

It feels like every event for the past 3 years a couple of teams have a sub, visa problems, shitty wifi, sick, etc . Doesn't feel like Im ever watching the best of a region Duke it out

yeah it is an issue but it does prevent the issue that valve's off-hands approach does:
ie. riot organises tourneys themselves with sponsors so they have full ownership of all the results, viewership, partners etc.
when valve does it during majors: they give the entire system to a private organisation which can cause scams and stuff

lately there have been a rise of those such as blastralis (fall finals 2024), heroic's coach being able to cheat mid-game by a camera bug (which only his setup could exploit btw)
and well, these issues also appear during non-riot events...
iem atlanta is being organised and not a single russian team, russian players playing in international teams or russian sponsors wil be given visas. it's more of a government issue rn.
lack of sponsors is a competition thing since Valve literally is sponsored by the "US AIR FORCE" and major saudi oil companies are backing ESL-CS.
