What’s y’all’s favorite book/series you have read? I’m thinking of reading again but idk what to read.
For context I’ve read ASOIAF/Lotr/stormlight/malazan already
I like character driven fantasy generally

ik it has tonnes of haters
but lowk
i love eragon
idc what anyone thinks
Read it already
It’s alright, but a bit juvenile at times
My favorite thing about it was the fact that eragon and that elf (i forgot her name) never actually got together, which subverted the very common trope
Read it, but sadly it’s prolly never getting finished
Main character is a huge Mary sue but it’s still enjoyable
Absolutely carried the shit out of the plot and characters at times, rothfuss is also just a really good writer
He really is! I can't wait for Doors of Stone (it's not gonna get finished)
im on book 6 of red rising, youve probably heard this get recommended a ton of times, but holy shit does it live up to its name, some of the shit these characters say/do has me doing pushups and shit out of nowhere i get so excited
I’ll check it out, I saw a page tho and it looked a bit cringe 😂 which put me off reading it so far
lmfaooo no worries, it can be like that i suppose, to me it was just pure fuel, i devoured the entire series so fast loved every single bit of it, id suggest give it a try, several chapters maybe, it was entertaining from the get go for me
LOTR is goated, ive read silmarillion, the 3 great tales, the unfinished tales. As well I have read his dark materials and it's good. I'm currently reading the Earthsea series
You gotta let me know whether you like earthsea, I’ve heard the author is one of the greats of fantasy
I’ve also read lotr and the silmarillion, haven’t read any of tolkiens other related works tho
Earthsea is very good, particularly the first 3 books for me. Only gripe I have with it is the lack of elaboration in the ending of each book, because I'm kinda used to the Tolkien style of the heroes returning and stuff like scouring of the shire.
The Wheel of Time. If you like character driven writing it's probably some of the best-written characters I've ever read.
It is a bit of a long one, but if you've already read a fair amount of fantasy I doubt that'd be much of a problem and it is absolutely worth it.
Heard a lot about it, the only thing I’m worried about is I’ve heard some of the books are a slog to get through
That is a common opinion. I didn't find it bad because to me it just felt like a lot of setup/character development but I can see how it would read really slow and annoying to some people, esp if you want more big moments. It only slows down after book 6 tho, so you have time to see if you like it before you get to that point anyway
Blacktongue Thief, just finished it a couple of weeks ago and it was great. Some funny comedy stuff and characters were well written
