From every story I have ever heard from people I know that work/have worked retail, it sounds like some of the most degrading and miserable work out there. Even if only 1 in every 100 people is utterly insane and entitled, you're gonna end up interacting with them pretty frequently and have to be professional no matter what they say to you.
