Just saw that this movie is rated 9.11 on MAL, holy shit. Is chainsaw man worth it or is it just like any other shonen but good animation?
I tried watching demon slayer but other than the animation i didnt find it interesting

its not if u ever watched la la land and yes reze movie gives that vibe, the animation and everything also great
the story is not surface level like demon slayer and the animation is incredible, worth the watch its just 1 season and a movie
No offense but DS has the most linear story among the top animes. It's so famous cuz of it's action scenes,cinematography and most importantly it's animation.
demon slayer is like the avatar of anime, you watch it because its pretty not because there's substance
chainsaw man (specifically reze's arc) is much deeper than that, and the animation is also top tier

the only good thing about it is the amount of reze +18 art that came out
Cinema majoring here, if you wanna watch peak animation action movies, you should try Redline by Takeshi Koike and Promare by Hiroyuki Imaishi these are so great (you can take a look at every Imaishi's work he's an amazing director)

I meant action movies shonen like, of course you can take a look at the major work of Satoshi Kon Paprika, Perfect Blue, Millenium actress, Katsuhiro Otomo with Akira and Manie Manie or even Mamoru Oshii with Kerberos Panzer cops (Jin roh the wolf brigade came from this universe) or angel's egg (much more philosophical and cryptic).
Great movie, It doesn't make sense at first glance if you don't look up some informations about it but it's mostly a movie where you can have your own interpretation.
I'll give you some keys that you could use to understand Oshii's reflexions.
First you have to know some biblical concepts and the story of Noah's arch, basically the idea of a cataclysm made by god to punish humanity. The concept of faith, do you believe in higher existential forms ? Heaven ? Hell ?
Maybe you should forget about that, and feel the movie's contemplative aspect, if you're too sceptic for that kind of questionning.
Did humanity left god ? or is it god who left us ? What can we believe in a post apocalyptic world condemned to live an infinite war against a spectral ennemy ?
If this pick your interest, then you should watch this movie. And don't forget that besides his animation worls he also did live action experimental movies that are as experimental as Angel's egg is.
