NRG in their current roster will never see the peak like they just had for the upcoming season. It will be like Wolves Esports. Everyone will shit on me for calling their recent Champions run a fluke. While I believe their win was deserved (they played well), that was a once in a lifetime performance.

When have we really seen Mada perform the way he did consistently throughout his Champions run before Paris? Never. Mada is like something and Asuna where they are all hit or miss as a player. They either reach levels of flow state or be mediocre.

s0m was NRG's best player before Paris. During Champions, he under-performed relative to his usual self, but was still fine as a player. Skuba, Brawk, and Ethan were also good players relative to tier 1 Americas teams, but was nothing like their Champions run.

NRG's run was a fluke. This thread is not to take away their win though. They all played very well. I am saying how it is though. Like Wolves, we will not see a peak like their Paris run anymore.

Seeing as how they were almost all top picks in the recent VCT Americas Player Awards, I believe the people who voted (VCT Broadcast Team, Third-Party Media, and a Pro player, Coach and Streamer from All VCT Americas Team) were under recency bias. The grip G2 had on Americas was unlike we have ever seen before. Although absolutely horrible on global events, they demolished every Americas team and it was not even close. I believe the G2 players deserved some of those awards and placements, especially Trent.

Trent was so close to hitting a consistency peak that only legendary players like Leo, aspas, and yay were able to hit across a single year. He should have won Initiator of the Year at least.

most of the year, he was their best player for the majority of the season

s0m was NRG's best player before Paris.

if there was ever a point where he was, it was rather minimal as he was always overshadowed by mada or skuba, with brawk at the end. he’s good, he just wasn’t their best

Seeing as how they were almost all top picks in the recent VCT Americas Player Awards

if this entire thread is about the player awards then you’re preaching to the choir because 99% of people know that the awards make no sense lmao

The thead was not about the player awards, but the discussion around it glazing NRG beyond healthy amounts prompted this thread.

Then the argument is kind of a nothing burger because you can make the same argument for pretty much every single champion that’s existed and you’d end up being right

It is a nothing burger, but I am expressing my opinions because let's be honest, if we rerun the timeline 100 more times, NRG wins Grand Finals only once, a fluke. I have nothing against NRG any other team, I actually supported NRG alongside MIBR during Paris. I had to get it out that their run was generational and somewhat lucky.

This shows how the game is more about consistency and adaptability than just be good. Imo g2 was the most deserving winner. However, it was nrg that showed consistency.

Say g2 is clearly better than 80% of the playstyles and hence the dominant wins. Whereas nrg was at par against 100% of the playstyles, exactly why a lot of their wins were not dominant (unlike g2). NRG adapted to the drx yoru-waylay on the go, it was by far the strongest combos and synergies I have ever seen in 5 years of watching valorant. G2 had time to prep, and vods of nrg vs drx, yet they failed to make it even close

Though there is no way to measure composure but nrg has to be the most composed team for 2025, no matter what the situation their comms and energy were EXACTLY the same throughout (I highly recommend watching their voice comms videos). A possible reason could be that they were already in the dumps and had nothing to lose, but all to gain - they never feared losing. Whereas, g2 already had a reputation to maintain, even a thought of losing would have caused a huge disappointment.

As far as keiko is concerned - I strongly feel that he is an upgrade over s0m.

All-in-all, even if there is a team that can defeat the world champions, it does not strip the latter of their title. The only reason they fail to maintain the hype would be because of getting outstrated, but I still believe that they will cook up something different and remain their usual selves.

YALLLAAAHHHHHH!
