:3
do NOT disrespect delighted like that. delighted are one of the very few good vlr users.
veronika deserves a mention in the best vlr users list, she is very chill
after G2 lost to Liquid, G2 amy tweeted that usual pro player thing like:
won/lost today against (insert team name). next we face (insert team name)
but when she said they were going against mibr next she used some sort of monkey emoji, which got brazilians triggered, as that is a really sensitive topic in Brazil. Brazilians attacked the shit out of her online, which is dumb, then one of the owners of G2 went on twitter to defend amy, but only made it worse. MiBR players probably didn't like the tweet as well because then you saw what happened on stage (i'm guessing)
so, yeah, that would be the lore, somewhat accurately
Honestly whatever the owner said made it way worse for amy like those statements were not at all needed ........ Honestly it shows why he is the "EX owner" of G2
srn personally tweeted that it was fine and that she didn't care btw, idk how many people saw that
Are you really this stupid and ignorant or do you not realise how degrading it is to have your and your entire race of people be called monkeys?
I saw amy tweet not a trace of her calling them monkeys all long I’ve assumed that monkeys are some sort of insult in brazil
And I’ve read above that its a sensitive topic in brazil and im asking WHY its a triggering thing?
Genuinely like I don’t know
It's legit js an insult idk why that's hard to comprehend lol, if I called middle eastern people all bombers that would make a bunch of people mad
Ik like i get where the bombers insult coming from but what did the monkeys do?
it's a way to belittle people basically saying "they are not humans, just monkeys" people do that with asians, jews and muslims
Nah, more about the skin color and the fact that Brazil has a lot of forests (Amazon, the actual Amazon)
There other specific adjectives for the other countries, which I won't say bc I'm respectful:D
so the "monkey" thing is a racial slur, that's the short answer. calling someone a "monkey" in Brazil is considered a racial crime, that's how serious it is.
think of it like the n word in the USA, this word has, similarly, been tied to slaves history, but in Brazil. you know, it's trying to belittle (is that the word?) someone to feel like they have fewer rights, like they are not to be respected the same as others, you know? that's being racist, obviously.
however, it kinda grew on to something also made to offend brazilians as a whole, some individuals from latam countries historically have callled us "monos", spanish to monkeys, especially in football enviroments, on other sports and competition it's been becoming, well, not common but, i've seen lots of foreigners use it, because they know that brazilians will lose their minds over it. we take it as an insult. also, i've spoken to a foreigner once that used it thinking it had something to do with "saying we live in jungles" lol, i dont know how common that is but, there you go, it's used as an insult, and we take it as it is.
Thank you dude and its kinda crazy how different cultures can be we call a super hyped people monkeys so i was so confused
amy had no ill intent calm down, jesus christ every brazilian fan is emotionally unstable
I'm not even calling out Amy here, I am not really invested in the drama but I am allowed to be mad when someone ask why is something so obviously offensive, offensive?
You say it’s obvious yet never address the reason and proceed to call me stupid like bro i just want to know WHY whats the reason like educate me
Sorry maybe I did come across as too agressive in my original response but I think it's pretty commonly regarded across multiple cultures that being called a monkey is insulting and degrading. I guess this triggered me a lot more than it should've but I've been seeing a lot of people try to downplay and even justify it, I thought you were one of those. (I'm not talking about Amy specifically, just the principle of using the monkey emoji when talking about BR teams)
Anyways if I misunderstood your intentions then sorry
You are deliberately being obtuse so you can defend Amy without burden of proof lmfao you are actually so cringe.
I cant believe in 2025, we are asking why referring to residents of third world countries or people of color "monkey" is degrading. He needed to use way harsher word than "stupid" to describe you.
We were having a conversation no one asked for your opinion so next time keep it to yourself
what an obtuse little monkey you are. This is an online forum. Talk in dms if you wanna have a private conversation.
bro its amy using a monkey-looking-bored emoji, not amy saying "all brazilians are monkeys" it obviously wasnt directed towards anyone, especially not "an entire race of people"
oh yea let me just only:
Use 🧽🚿whenever I am talking about Indians players
Use 💣whenever I am talking about Arab players
Use 🥷🏿🐒whenever I am talking about Africans players
Use 🦇whenever I am talking about Chinese players
Look I am not saying it was her intention to come across as racist I don't know her or care to find out but to try and twist things by saying using the monkey emoji (ESPECIALLY considering she doesn't use it that much) when discussing BR teams wouldn't come across racist is bullshit and you know it.
i literally don't know it, and it makes sense that a european also wouldn't (I've always thought of it as a racist insult used exclusively against black people? idk that's the only way I've ever heard it online or at high schools or middle schools in the united states). I'd assume she was just using the expression and pose of it to indicate her current mood. doesn't really equate to obvious racism like having a bomb emoji while talking about arab players.
yeah, maybe that's the case, but we don't interpret that the same, we just dont.
her tweet apologizing makes me think that she def didnt want to insinuate anything, she was just ignorant on the issue, and it could've been an unfortunate coincidence? yes, but, again, that's not how we receive/perceive the word/symbol, you can call us unstable or whatever you may, it won't change the fact that culturally that's offensive, and just like it's been pointed out, specifically against brazilians you use that emoji... that's crazy
again, maybe it's a coincidence, but especially on twitter, people will attack first lol
i feel like, at the end of the day, she probably didn't have any intentions behind it, and people could've just tried to educate her on the topic politely, but this is the ethernet, so... yeah, not happening
internet gonna internet
I think no player is at much fault here, and its mostly been blown up by toxic fans and that dumbass former g2 guy dropping slurs randomly lol, it does make sense how some people were upset though (as far as I can tell no MIBR players genuinely were, which makes it weird why people care about this imo).
i really can't tell how much they really care about this, however, it looked like they do care, mibr influencers took part in it, TL daiki tweeted about it, what i mean is, as a community - including players, influencers, journalists, personas, etc - brazilians will usually care about this, and that's reinforced by the players behavior on stage
which is actually kind of funny because in the early CS 1.6 days mibr was seen as the org that had money, which made its players back then have the fame of rich kids yk hahaha, but they changed a lot throughout the years
the player behavior was odd, but srn and at least 2 i think other mibr players have said that they don't take the situation seriously outside of the game
the rest of that is true though
you have never in your life heard monkey being used to degrade a person of color or residency from certain countries?
oh, also, it doesnt matter which specific ape or monkey it is lol, thats probably the worse justification possible. it's received and perceived as an insult all the same.
maybe so, I'm not familiar with the culture; it would be odd to use that emoji in a racist context though
any posted an emoji
brazilians get mad for basically no reason
there’s not really any drama, just overreaction
i did, and the entirety of brazil decided to overreact of an emoji over a monkey where, in the rest of the post, there is not even a hint of malice or ill intent beyond that one singular emoji
this topic is so complex that i cant even bother writing a third massive text to reply. just know you’re being way too simplistic and ignoring all the nuance.
there shouldn’t be any form of nuance
anyone with common sense and who knows the context of the post wouldn’t be saying anything to amy and she didn’t even need to send out one apology, let alone two
carlos is just dumb as rocks and loves to fan the flames for no reason so sure i understand why there’s hate directed at him and g2 the organization, but thinking that anyone on the g2g squad was even non-intentionally being racist is smooth brained
it’s not complex. it’s an emoji
g2 mickey mouse both gc and vct lmfao regional farmers in mickey mouse americas
"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" Brazil should learn from this
saying its just “dont let words hurt you” is honestly a massive level of stupidity when history itself proves the opposite. words have always had power to humiliate, dehumanize, incite violence, justify atrocities, and shape how entire societies treat certain groups. pretending language doesnt matter is ignoring both historical facts and the reality we live in.
im not even getting into whether what happened with amy was fair or not. i just think this whole take, which i’ve seen a lot of people, especially from na, repeating, is simply stupid.
You are totally correct but your making it sound like Amy is a politician, or a person with institutional power. She is just a regular person who made a mistake. Why should the G2 players be recieving so much hate and death threats over a single emoji. The ones turning it into death threats r the ones who should be frowned upon.
dude i literally never said anything about amy having “institutional power” or being some politician. youre bringing up a completely random point to argue against something i didnt even say. my comment was about how stupid the whole “words don’t hurt” mindset is, not about treating amy like some authority figure.
and yeah, everyone already agrees the death threats are insane, disgusting, and way out of proportion. no one here is defending that.
acting like the whole situation is "emoji vs death threats" is just oversimplifying it to avoid the actual nuance.
I mean the whole point of me saying this was for the Amy situation because its fitting. Ur responses sound like chat gpt.
bunch of nothingburger to distract ppl from SRG making GC into one team tournament
