EWC or lock in
how do the saudis have a billion dollars and not be able to put any of that behind good production
is the other game was bad too? genuinely asking because i only watch apex & val
for me, there's a difference between stupid funny tournaments (lock in) and stupid tournaments (ewc)
i wish we could have another lock in, because literally everyone could root for their team, and for many orgs/players that was their first and last lan literally ever
how else am i going to see matchups like nukkye vs seoldam, or dgzin vs carpe? like there are so many players who i somewhat follow, and who arent necessarily at the top, and they just exist in completely isolated universes now
lockin was fun to watch as hell. new meta, new teams, new maps... idk why ppl hate on lockin so much cuz i felt like it was very entertaining and a great tourny to start franchise
I think the hate was from the single-elimination bracket stage (how the hell could you pull off double-elimination with that many teams?) and how much that discredits the fnatic victory?
maybe i'm too casual, but when i watch these VCT matches, i'm not watching to see who wins - i'm there for new and entertaining player-player interactions. like yeah maybe seeing good competitive matches between fnatic, loud, etc. is worthwhile, but it's also really Fun and Entertaining to watch the scream/nivera KC roster go against five chinese players led by berlin, even if both teams are a mess. and we don't get that kind of magic at our LANs anymore.
it's funny because in like tennis and some other sports - tournaments have always been single elim - but no one sees these as less valid whilst in valorant people have this notion because of all the double elim tournaments that single elim is now mickey mouse
it just rewards a different set of skills - consistency to not lose at all and being able to beat people on the first approach without significant anti-stratting help. I bet if you tried to introduce double elim in some of the other sports it would be widely protested for allowing champions to come out of the losers - so it's just really whatever the fanbase has been conditioned to accept
lock in was far more micky. but it had better production and the best crowd
