I don't think most esports events make money, unless they are run by the creators of the game.
i actually wonder now
how big do the esports have to become for the streaming to stop being free, like in traditional sports
would have to be a massive change in culture, like trad sports is big cuz u come home from work, put on an NBA/NFL game on tv, crack open a cold beer, and if you have them, invite ur 40yo buddies to a watchparty
thats like 50% of NA households on a matchday
when that starts being the case with esports, then we can talk about selling broadcast rights to TV stations, which would result in the viewer needing to pay some subscription, probably just pay for television and then u can just watch it on a mainstream channel
the 2 events that i know for sure make a profit are cs majors (40-60m revenue from stickers per major) and LoL worlds (idk how much they make in revenue but surely millions of ppl buy the event pass and winners skins)
they're supposed to bring tourism to the country so they dont profit from the event
Yeah, thats why the tickets are so expensive + im sure theyll request a % of money from what orgs earn in this event in the prizepool
nah they don't, their main purpose is to try and boost their tourism industry and to diversify their economy bc eventually they will run out of oil money 😱
I don't know if there are any abroad, but in China they have launched a lot of EWC packages, which are essentially to attract more people to travel to Saudi Arabia, for example, if you go to Toronto, to Bangkok, you will definitely travel
So it doesn't matter how much you earn, it's important how many people come to Saudi Arabia, but their director team is really bad, which affects the perception
