I know that people are already calling it a mickey mouse tourney because its not an actual riot event but would people consider EWC higher on the rankings of tourneys or LOCK//IN? Like LOCK//IN had no qualifications and everyone was invited, at least EWC has some sort of qualifications even if it didn't make sense at some parts plus it has 16 teams.

Lock in was and is considered a masters 2.0, hence the S-Tier event.
This one is no different. Call it whatever you like, mickey mouse, ratatouille, lakers 2020 chip, but this is another s tier event and only now is ruot participating in it, but this ewc thing has been on since 2023, riot just didn't have the partnership to go through with this + lock in was already a thing

lock in and ewc are in the same category if that makes you feel any better

EWC is inherently worse than lock in. They are playing on old patches, they are playing bo1's, they are cramming the schedule of this entire event because every sport that is involved in the EWC complains about this too.

Then riot and orgs say they won't force players to go to the event yet it's esports where the profit margins are not always great and it's a tournament that can make your orgs soooooooooo much money the players are essentially forced to play in a tournament or make your own org mad

the qualification arguement makes no sense for lock in because every single team was invited, and if you really want to get picky, the chinese teams technically qualified, its less than lock in but by a lil

the only things i’d say stop this from being really top tier is the timing of the event and some of the format oddities (some bo1 matches, multiple matches a day)

any event with BO1s as part of the match format cannot be called a S-tier event surely?
imo the playoff structure for EWC is fine cuz it is similar to lock-in but the group stage structure is actually questionable asf

Bo1's are a JOKE. Why? Because there are SO MANY maps to choose from and also a VARIETY of comps to show. 1 map doesn't reveal shit. Mickey ass EWC.
