I swear if they rank G2 or any other Nearest Airport team as first and follow it up with more Nearest Airport teams and ShitMEA teams in the power rankings and put the best Pacific team at like 6th for Champions, after seeing Pacific win the last two trophies, I'm gonna lose it

As someone who KNEW G2 had 0 chance at the trophy, no it isnt.
They measure teams off of prettiness of play. If the teams play in a style thats exciting or pretty/"perfect" then they will always rate that team. Theyre terrible at predicting potential outcomes when taking in the variables because all they do is measure the numbers and the apparent, thats literally their job.
They dont make predictions off of previous events, they dont make predictions off of story lines, they predict the logical and most likely outcome as their vote, and just like any other person they sometimes let their emotions get their bias just like Sideshow with G2 and Sliggy with PRX.
Dont act like theyre not entitled to their very justified opinion (more justified than the braindead logic most Valorant fans use for their own opinions)

Sure, but some of our frustration goes beyond their predictions (although seeing the NA/EMEA lens bias affect this time-and-time again can be frustrating).

Ever since Sideshow's KC hatewatching took off - I feel like both Sideshow and TMV realised they could pivot into being far more critical. Although he usually is more professional when casting, on his personal stream it's like there's no leash on what comments he can make and these days any team that isn't playing perfect Valorant just gets clowned on. It was funny at the start, but it's getting annoying hearing about how every series is muddy or a team is bad - like these are professional teams that are trying their best although there will be games that are worse, do we really need to hate on every mistake instead of enjoying the game? Like it just reminds me of steel - just negativity.

Sideshow and TMV I would categorise as like the most negative ones on Plat Chat and their act these days is just criticising. I prefer watching Sliggy or like mini these days because they are kinder to both teams, offer insights, and when they criticise - it just feels less hateful. Ironically they're the ones with the resume that would allow them to criticise more harshly - but I bet it's because they've been through the process that they understand the difficulty of trying to play perfect valorant all the time and have far more empathy for mistakes.

It's the hating and being overly critical I take issue with. For example, FNS can glaze PRX to hell and back, but he ain't hurting anyone. Sliggy is also pretty balanced in his takes.

Meanwhile, Sideshow and TMV get reputations for being a [enter team] hater. Sideshow isn't a redditor, but because he's hired by riot it doesn't exactly bode well when you know exactly what he really thinks that he's made abundantly clear on stream when he's not muzzled by professionalism.

at the end of the day, Sideshow and TMV are just doing this for entertainment, it doesn't have to be that serious imo

Yeah, I really used to enjoy Plat Chat and Sideshow as a caster but something that I've come to notice after these years is Sideshow can actually be really entrenched in his opinions/takes. Like it can be entertaining, but sometimes it's just frustrating watching him shut down another member of the show who has a different opinion to him because he is so sure his take is correct (when that isn't always the case). It also takes a lot of evidence for alter his stance - and even then it's not really in true faith, but like begrudgingly - like the moment there is evidence that supports his original take, he is quick to switch back.

For example, Sideshow definitely has a bias towards a certain playstyle that he views as correct, textbook, 'perfect' valorant. He rates teams that play in that style - e.g. G2, XLG, FNC, etc. very highly. But all teams that don't play that way, he struggles to give credit to.

For me the last straw was probably his absolute hate boner for PRX despite how wholesome the guys on PRX are.

  • He hates the way they play since it's not that textbook style - but this 'whimsy' is absolutely good for the scene. At the end of the day eSports exists to entertain - yes this can be through showing top-level perfect Valorant, but having that variety makes viewership so much more interesting. Many people enjoy a PRX game far more than a G2 one.
  • He has made clear on multiple occasions that he thought they should make roster changes - in particular he wanted Jinggg dropped because Jinggg's playstyle is the embodiment of W gaming and a large part of what makes this team 'whimsy' (so in essence, again, he wanted a change in playstyle and to stop WGaming). Perhaps roster changes could have worked, but I always felt that the player quality on PRX is really good and the problem was more figuring out roles (okay fine, swapping a player is a quick short-term fix), meta and getting additional support with coaching, but more importantly, I, and likely many other fans, don't simply just follow whichever team is the winning one - but we follow for the love of certain players. Part of PRX reason for having such a dedicated fanbase is BECAUSE they don't just change a roster everytime something goes wrong - we are able to become invested in the lineup because of how stable it is. The first two points are literally why PRX has such a big fanbase as opposed to other orgs.
  • Now okay the first two are somewhat reasonable, but what REALLY IRKS ME is how because of the first two, Sideshow is so dismissive of PRX. He's more professional when he's casting, but if you tune into Sideshow's streams that is just pure hatewatching (especially the earlier ones when the train was just getting started) - except it's worse than when like an ex-player hatewatches their old team - that stuff can be funny - but as a professional in the scene, that kind of belittling and straight up negative-bias lens just rubs me in the wrong way.
  • Back to the entrenched views point - even with Sliggy's heads-up that this team may be going on a run - nope, Sideshow doesn't accept it. He proceeds to watch some of their games since he wants a front row seat to the train derailing - they exceed his expectations - but nope, PRX are still not good, their opponents just throw against them. He gets to watch them in Masters Toronto - at this point he acknowledges that hey they have some nice plays - but almost at every instance where he is to pred their game - nope, still going for the other team. Because truly giving credit (not just acknowledging good plays here and there) and believing they're good doesn't fit his deeply entrenched views.

Lmao exactly, winning Stage 2 against what? The only other 'good' team in Americas is SEN and the rest are dogshit lmfao

Pacific has like 7 teams that are capable of making internationals and PRX battles through every one of them to make it here

1st seeded rrq couldnt win a single map, geng got elimated by G2, the only reason "7 teams are capable of making internationals" is because every pacific team was painfully average during stage 1

talon, boom, and nongshim wouldnt have done anything at masters either, the only team which could have competed is probably DRX

Americas 3rd seed (MIBR) literally holds the record for the worst performance of all time at global events, and if that's your supposed 3rd best team then idk what to say man

They did beat FNC on Haven. In a pretty dominant fashion, too.

But otherwise it was a disappointing tournament for them for sure.

They still put prx 4th brother which is still very high unlike last time at bottom of the table and also they consider current performance not the past
Edit - they did dirty to wolves I would say

It took minutes of Wyatt convincing them to put a Pacific team in the top 4, otherwise they were literally gonna roll with PRX 8th, RRQ 7th and GEN 6th lmao

When they were ranking PRX at 4th, Sideshow was visibly cringing and whining

#14

Yea but PRX werent even REMOTELY this good in Pacific just like how GenG also werent remotely as impressive in regionals either. They also rated RRQ based off the fact that their wins were completely reliant on non sustainable factors like Jemkin carrying every single map.

Listen I get it sometimes they make the most braindead preds and power rankings but at the end of the day it really isnt that serious and at the very least they have a lot more justification for their questionable opinions than you do for yours

don't know why you're being downvoted - literally if it weren't for some of the pacific talent, Wyatt, and Sliggy - Sideshow and TMV would be rating them A LOT lower

it's bc random ass pacific teams will start going crazy and then drop off a cliff. Just look at RRQ or T1
EMEA and NA are way more stagnant in which teams are good and which suck - it's more predictable so it's a safer bet.
